Something going on in Bangor / Helen`s Bay Coastguard Helis X2
« on: November 12, 2021, 05:51:08 PM »
Noticed ICG S92 EI-ICA and UKCG AW A189 G-MCGR from Glasgow both operating near Bangor / Helen`s Bay ( 1745 )

Looking at trace on FR24 the AW189 was doing a sweep of outer Belfast Lough, while S92 checked shoreline.

Nothing on local news as yet.

6 ships apparently also involved? I can see at least 3 life boats on Marine tracker

Looks to have stood down now, both on way home.

I might be wrong, but I don't recall ever seeing EI-ICA up here before?

Looks like a paddle boat owner entered water, but wasn't seen returning. He went back to land at another location apparently which sparked the S&R. When he didn't return the alarm was raised.

It wasn`t that woman off the Amazon advert then ?  :P  Seriously though, that search must have cost a few quid, and diverted resources that may have been needed elsewhere.

I agree totally AT especially heading into the water at that time of day and with those conditions was stupidity. Plus that coastline is notorious for rip currents .

Reported elsewhere that it was a well intentioned but erroneous report from a member of the public.
