McDonnell 119 business jet
« on: October 16, 2014, 12:42:24 PM »
Just this morning I 'discovered' this early biz-jet prototype.  Looks like a baby CV-880!

It's the McDonnell 119, designed for the USAF UTX competition that was won by the NA Sabreliner*.  Another go was had at the UCX competition but Lockheed took that one.  Only one 119 was built and it was the first biz-jet to receive FAA certification.

Apparently stressed to +9G!

However its fate was sealed when Jim McDonnell himself bought a Sabreliner for personal use...

* as part of this discovery I also learned that the Sabreliner used the F-86's wing... makes perfect sense now but I never thought about the name!
