A few more shots of residents, on the 21 approach this afternoon.  Incredible blue sky but that meant the approach was directly into the Sunshine.

Numerous gulls, oyster-catchers and lapwings in background.

There was also an egret on the grass out to the west of the clubhouse, there are three of them that are often seen around the canal.  Perhaps they nest somewhere on the airfield.  Didn't have a long-lens with me so this is all you get today:

09:10 Resident VEZE G-KENZ departed heading north, did not return today.

09:45 Resident TAIL G-CFON up for a jaunt, don't see it up often but always lively.  Interesting type, designed in the early 1950s by racing pilot Steve Wittman.  150 mph cruise and 30 mpg!

Quote
The Wittman Tailwind was a very important milestone in the history of modern homebuilt movement which dates from September 1952 when the current homebuilt regulations went into effect. The Tailwind was the first homebuilt certified by CAA to carry a "non-revenue passenger".

No visitors to report today but COY2 G-BZKO was up for the first time since several weeks, now resident and change-of-ownership complete.

~~

Not au revoir but farewell this week to the Crepe Weavers chimney after 60 years standing to the north of the airfield.  It wasn't brought-down elegantly by a steeplejack, as had been hoped, but hacked-down by an excavator which climbed a big ramp of rubble.

As seen from Scrabo back in August 2015 with runway 22 ( now 21 ) in the background.

(http://occurs.lineum.org.uk/public/blog/2017/02/.Crepe_Weavers_Chimney_2015_08_s.jpg?615281760610876611) (http://occurs.lineum.org.uk/public/blog/2017/02/Crepe_Weavers_Chimney_2015_08.JPEG)

Bizarrely enough, its demolition reminded a friend that he had been on holiday several decades ago and met the man that was responsible for erecting it...

Couldn't get an angle on 'CEEW but it's plain white now without reg, stripes or stencilling.  Probably spec-ops ;)

15:25 arr / 16:45 dep C172 G-THYA.  Seems to be doing a tour of Irish airfields this week.

Also up for a jaunt around lunch-time today was resident DHC1 G-BWJY, perhaps for a prospective buyer...?

Grey day with cloud down to 700ft, resident DHC1 G-BWJY was up for a jaunt around 14:30 and was flitting in and out of the cloud.

Apparently it has now been sold but I don't know whether it will be remaining resident or departing.  Presumably we'll find out when the CoO goes-through on G-INFO.
