Title: Avro Shackleton - When will we get a museum in Ballykelly
Post by: Brian McBride on April 05, 2017, 12:45:49 PM
When will we ever get a Shackleton museum at Ballykelly?
There must be a corner of the airfield available, despite the developments.
Great tourist attraction bring money to the area, especially if we had an aircraft!
The Shackleton Project:  "Shackleton WR963 - The Return to Flight"https://www.facebook.c om/avro.shackleton2/?fref=ts is underway in Coventry, but has money problems.
Could we persuade local politicians to grant support a project in N.Ireland?

It would be terrific if the backing could be gained for such a venture.

Much as I'd love to see a Shack locally, I wouldn't have thought it likely to happen at the Ballykelly site for reasons which are mainly political.

Politicians agreeing about anything in this country is highly unlikely  :-X

My neighbour used to work on Shacks when he joined the RAF. He speaks of them so fondly

I`ve spoken to a few people who served on Shackleton`s and it seems it was a very popular aircraft despite being desperately noisey due to contra-rotating props etc.

There were two at Paphos Airport in Cyprus-they used to sit were there is now a car rental park.

Both Aircraft are visable on google earth at the western end of the taxiway.......WL747 and WL757
