TCX23TD Diverted to Dublin
« on: June 09, 2013, 12:13:45 AM »
Been an eventful evening here at BFS... Due to maintenance,  TCX23TD after an unsuccessful attempt to land at runway 35 (Apparently Wind) aborted as ground staff tried to open Runway25, but maintenance crews were unable to do so in time. So after circling around south Antrim it diverted to Dublin.

Was about to ask what was going on, the Thompson did a low pass over me in Ballymena on an unusual heading, then FR24 playback (from 2220 Zulu) seems to show an EZY ( from PMI) aborting on 35.  As for the 'wind' excuse, is there any at BFS cause there is none here?

May be no wind on the ground but at 100ft it could be windy

Very little wind here Gaffer... The Easyjet landed and so did TOM1679 on runway 17 instead of 35. It's going to be long night for the Thomas Cooke Gran Canaria passengers!!!

Yea, I noticed that. A tailwind on 35 would be fixed by using 17, that's the point.  Why would a crosswind on 25 have been preferable?

I know it has to be the captain's call but he has made a lot of disruption that the others seemed able to avoid.

TCX23TD landed in Dublin at 00:27... no doubt to a thunderous round of applause from its passengers  :-[

You've asked a good question Gaffer... I wonder why he didn't land on 17. Any ideas TCX49?

Remember Thomas cook as a A321 based here which is bigger than EZY, TOM etc and 17/35 is a small runway at 6,204 and he will need to take extra care landing it on the runway so anything that makes him feel unsafe he will go-around. As the 10 knot tail wind could of pushed his speed up making it unsafe resulting in the go-around!

And for not taking 17 he was going for it but the ATC made him hold extra due EZY landing and was running out of fuel and in the end had to go to dublin.

Cheers Callum. Makes perfect sense. So much was happening tonight on 128.500 that it was hard to keep up! ;)

Fair enough with the larger aircraft and overspeed, wonder if ATC were aware of fuel margin and could have asked the ezy to hold?

Just seems a huge inconvenience & cost for all concerned.

I thought the 25 works had finished, BFS is getting a lot of hassle from the effects
