Promoting the forum?
« on: October 22, 2008, 09:07:36 AM »
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for promoting the forum. Thankfully after many years it has a small group of local enthusiasts that visit/contribute regularly. But surely there are more than us few that have even a passing interest in local or any type of aviation.
I've posted links to it on other forums and any other forums that I have signed up to I have a link to it in my signature.
So any ideas?

Many thanks Special :) Maybe the name 'Dalesplanes' doesn't convey the message that it's an enthusiasts site?

its my pleasure casper, even though i dont post often, i check this site usually twice a day, love it, no other site gets me the local info like this, you should be very proud.

As for the name, i dont see anything wrong, i believe u said the name was dedicated to your son, which i think is class, so thumbs up from me casper

PS:i tihnk the forum is getting bigger, just compare it to this time last year, massive improvement in amount of posts

I'd consider changing the name to something associated with Aviation in general.

Perhaps sub-divide Modern Civil Aircraft into three sections ; Commercial / General* / Helicopters
*C172,PA28,microlights etc

Other local SBS / scanning enthusiasts may post if there was a section devoted to them aswell?

These are all catered for elsewhere on the internet of course and the big sites are hard to compete with.

I agree but there aren't many that cater for enthusiasts in Northern Ireland/ Ireland. I think (or hoping) it's just a matter of getting the word out there, but how?

I have been spreading the website amongst aviation friends within Northern Ireland and I believe one or two have joined however have been inactive in posting. A few of them do not have internet at home thus limiting their time on here.

I think the best bet is to wait until the next large event happens (unfortunately Newtownards/Enniskillen 2009) and then make a push advertising the website. It seems this site took off due to the single Portrush 2008 thread which appeared as the first website in yahoo search when 'Portrush airshow 2008' was typed.

Something like www.NIspotters.co.uk might be a more recognisable name to the average Northern Irish plane. spotter. I don't think people are making the connection with Northern Ireland plane spotting and dalesplanes.co.uk.

I would leave it as is......don`t fix it if it a`int broke!!!

I found the site a few years ago by googling NI spotters so if people want to find it they can.

I like the fact that it is local and a small group of regulars that actually tip off/share info on local aviation topics (unlike some ;) )

I would hate to see this site over run by nerdy types
