Antonov 225
« on: November 15, 2014, 06:17:53 PM »
Hi folks,

From other sources the 225 is in Leipzig and is due to leave tonight (19:00 local) to fly to Toronto via Doncaster, Keflavik and Goose Bay.

No details on timing or route but it "might" overfly and if it is delayed in Doncaster it "might" be daylight tomorrow??

Any of our 'well connected' colleagues able to fill the blanks?

Even better, Twitter is reporting poor weather @ Doncaster, anyone know anybody in BFS ops could offer a diversion option? ?

Is the 225 able to operate into/out of Aldergrove?

There was a discussion about that on here a while ago,I think BFS wasn`t able to take the aircraft, but it can operate from Shannon.

A few checks online suggested at MTOW (Max Takeoff weight) 9,842ft is required, and at max landing weight it needs 11,482ft.

I`m unsure how accurate those figures are,so please don`t shoot the messenger. :)

Runway 25/07 at BFS is 9121ft or 2780 metres.

Shannon 24/06 is 10,495ft or 3199 metres.

It has operated out of Shannon on at least one occasion, and a friend of mine managed to get a walk around and through (inside, as far as I know it doesn't have clamshell doors at the rear like the AN-124), well chuffed he was too! A tad jealous was I.

IIRC the issue isn't actually runway length but clearance of obstructions once off it.

Presumably if the 225 goes over we'll be fit to hear it coming from the east coast of England

You've got to hand it to the Russians, they really don't do things by degrees

She still seems to be heading direct over the Atlantic, I assume back to Doncaster?
