Site Downtime
« on: July 06, 2015, 08:16:29 PM »
Guys in preparation for the site move I've disabled the attachments again. You can continue to post text and links for the next day or so.
I'll be backing up the current site files, hence the attachment disable, and will move them to the new server.
The last thing to be backed up will be the database. This will probably happen tomorrow evening. At this stage I will have to disable the whole site to prevent any additional posts that will missed if posted after the database backup.
The DNS has to be changed to point to the new server - this is what will keep the site off-line the longest. Again I'll try and get this done tomorrow evening. Hopefully by Wednesday morning the move will be complete.

Plan to backup the database from around 10pm tonight :)

Hopefully everything will be sorted by morning, although it can take 24 to 48 hours for the DNS to change.

Usually my ISP has very quick DNS refresh but only just came through 10 mins ago.

Looks like some folk were able to reach the forum yesterday though.

Despite running the website I was only able to get on to it last night lol. I think Mig21 was the first to get access.

Has anyone else been experiencing erratic hangs of about 20 to 30 seconds since the site was migrated?

Usually when trying to open a thread or reply.  The tracepath looks fine so I assume it's something internal.  Eventually it does wake-up.

Haven't noticed anything like that Smudge, but as you say if anyone else is experiencing it please let me know and I'll look in to it.

Has happened once or twice to me. Yesterday it took a while to load.

Yes,it is slow to load sometimes, and I have had a few time-outs when replying to threads.
I use google chrome as my browser-Yes they are evil and don`t pay their taxes, but it is faster than IE on my machine.

Anyone downloaded the new free windows 10? Not sure if I want to get it myself,so wondered what others had thought.

Not sure 10 is available yet to download, I've reserved it, but it is telling me it won't be released to download until the 29th July.

I've had windows 10 since earlier in the year - as a software dev is 'one of the things I do' I've had access to it, and had it running a virtual machine. I'm not dying about it. I'll be sticking to my mac and windows 7 for the time being.

You`re quite right,I had not read any further into it-when I clicked on the icon it said you can reserve your copy.
