R44 G-JKAY is also pottering around today, went out south-east around 15:30 and has just clattered past Ards heading NW again 1,200 ft

^ That's the boyo!

G-NTWK didn't go flying today, perhaps too windy and wet for its mission.  So here's a photo of it in better weather, against the Sunset last night.

You might be interested to know that the power-supply on the cradle is a "Concorde"-brand battery.

I couldn't find an angle without that chimney in the background, so I might as well recount some local history...

In the early 1950s the site on which it stands was occupied by the Irish Tapestry Co and they had submitted a planning approval request for the erection of a chimney of 85 ft 6 inches in height.  The Council approved, being keen to advance local industry, but the Air Ministry objected on the grounds of hazard to possible Service use of the airfield.  The council eventually invoked the Ministry of Health and Local Government which over-ruled the Air Ministry on the grounds that it was no longer an RAF base and that local industry had greater precedence.  In July 1952 the Air Ministry relented.

Hence, the chimney was constructed and today stands as the last remnant of the company's facilities.  It is due to be demolished in the future as part of the Marm Redevelopment project for the site.

Ta!

Mr Jamiroquai is upgrading to an R66 so has apparently sold ’JKAY to some NI-based owners, hence its appearances at EGAD recently.  Shame he can't take the reg with him :)

I`m surprised his big head can fit in a R44. ;D

Not a lot happening today, despite the better weather, so here's a family portrait of Harold and little Hilda from Saturday.

And also That Chimney...

That house in the background on the Scrabo Road would be a cracking site for spotting.

11:00 C182 D-EGHL arr.  Preparing to depart 13:45 Up at 14:30 for a quick jaunt and back down. I believe it will be operating locally for a couple of days.

I'm not sure if der Hund came along for the journey, though.

14:54 Blue-bellied Cherokee-type arr, departed about 30 mins later.  Didn't catch the ID unfortunately.

Ta!  Most of the shots went into the bin, the heat-shimmer coming off the apron was terrific.  We're not used to that :)

Resident PA22 EI-EZX has been pottering around this afternoon, makes a lovely noise.

S76 G-XXEB landed somewhere very close to Ards from 11:00 to 12:30 but I didn't see either Charles or Camilla...  Edit: they were in Portaferry, apparently

Headed on up to EGAA afterwards

12:15-ish Dimona G-RIET departed, but I didn't notice it returning.

Also out on the apron today was sort-of-not-really-resident G-AVKK, I really needed to have used a monopod to photograph it as it is so tiny-wee.  Seems to have been in since 2016-05-14, at least that was the last Mode-S ping I had.  Departed around 14:50.
