VTTS announce another project.

Obviously not concerned about the bruhaha around vintage jets, VTTS announced this morning that they will be restoring to full flying condition Canberra B.2 WK163.

I shall permit myself a small Woot!

Great to see, will fill the gap left by XH134. Wonder how much they will ask for each year donations wise.

There are also apparently plans for 2 Sea Harriers to be restored to flight by FNHT also as mentioned at the FNHT supporters day, but at the moment its just in the planning stage

Surely an opportunity to buy XH134 as well, and have both aircraft flying. :-\

I am sure they looked at XH134, out of the two you would have thought 134 was the better option but that must not be the case.

The B2 is rather more "classic".

True, but having both flying would be rather good.I`m not sure if 134 sold at the recent auction or what it`s current status is.It was a lengthy restoration to get it flying again.
Two Canberra`s flying together would be rather cool. 8)

Update-

Well, guess what? It's been put on hold. And it does not look good long term right now.

This was announced one year exactly from XH558 final flight too.  All info is in the new newsletter this evening, but here is a brief run down.

Quote
Vulcan can no longer use Hangar 3 in Doncaster, and will now move to the smaller Hangar 1. As such 'financial commitments' have been cut and they urgently need funds for 558.

They have had 18,000 visitors to Doncaster to see 558 but have fell short on expectations of of hangar costs etc while tours and retail sales have exceeded expectations.

Conditions and space in Hangar 1 means funding is needed right now and is critical.

They will be cutting the VTTS/CTTS trust by 30%

Canberra to the Sky has not picked up as much support as they expected. Seems it actually fell well short of it.

A new and independent 'Canberra Restoration Project'  will be set up, outside of VTTS.

This means they may well not meet the target of a return to flight in 2018 as targeted as part of the RAF 100 celebrations.

'For the time being, all resources will be focused on XH558'

It seems that VTTS/CTTS can`t get anything right, whoever does their cost projections must be using a dartboard to guess the figures. :-\
We all know these things cost money, but they always seem to be in some dire crisis or another.

I think once 558 was no longer an air worthy attraction, Doncaster airport lost a lot of interest in 558. However, VTTS have always been £££ minded.

Back in 2013 so many people poured money into them to have the final season with her flying, only to be told.. oh we are keeping her flying for another 2 years. As great as that was, many felt annoyed at how they rattled the collection tins around the final year being 2013. A lot of people who backed the aircraft greatly then started to tell them to F Off when they came rattling the tin again.

There is a lot of talk tonight about one last flight still... A ferry flight out of Doncaster to a new base. I think this is very unlikely. I doubt the CAA would grant a one time permit now over a year from when support ended.

I doubt we will see the Canberra any time soon in the skies. Unless a massive investment comes along like it did last minute in 2007/08 I don't see movement for a long time.

Blimey, picking through their accounts ending October 2015 there is this gem:

Marshall Aerospace creditor written off       1,291,970

So Marshall's wrote-off £1.3 million of debt, and VTTS is still short of cash...?

Time for XH558 to be passed into other hands to be preserved for the nation, I think.

Seems fair enough, twice as much as the PM to run a poxey aviation charity, sigh

I have heard similar figures about his salary-it`s a disgrace that he gets any salary from the charity, the charity was set up for the aircraft, not to pay for him. :-X

I feel certain people would be outraged, and rightly so,if they knew just how badly the VTTS has been run.

In my own opinion the VTTS board should never be allowed near any other aviation,or charity based project again. >:(

Another aircraft for VTTS. (Non flying)

Quote
We are delighted that the role of Vulcan to the Sky Trust as guardians of British Jet Age aviation has been recognised by the owner of another important Jet-Age aircraft, who has asked the Trust to include it as one of the exhibits at 'The Vulcan Experience'.

That aircraft is the Supermarine Swift F Mk. 4 - WK275, a single-seater jet fighter which served in the RAF in the 1950s.

Well, this isn't great news. Both XH558 and WK163 are to be moved... to storage!!

At least in the short term until you pump them up with more £££ !!

Quote
Vulcan XH558's Survival Plan

Vulcan to the Sky Trust, which operates Vulcan XH558, Britainís most popular aircraft, has to leave the hangar where the Vulcan and record-breaking Canberra WK163 are based. In the short term, there is no choice but to move them into storage. This campaign is to raise the funds needed for this move, and to look after the aircraft while a new hangar can be constructed. This will allow resumption of the popular tours and events around the aircraft and new income opportunities for the future.

Philanthropists double public donations

To hibernate the existing hangar operations and secure Vulcan XH558, Canberra WK163 and other assets in storage is expected to cost around £200,000 more than the Trust can afford given the cessation of hangar businesses. Half of this has been promised as matched-funding by a group of philanthropists against donations from XH558ís supporters.

Thanks to the generosity of these individuals, every pound you give will be doubled.

Incidentally, at a talk last week, it was revealed by Martin Withers and Ian Homer that they had secured the needed replacement support from an Aerospace firm for a 2016 season (possibly onwards)  replacing Marshalls however, Rolls Royce deemed it unacceptable.
