Ah so perhaps it wasn't a daytrip then :(

Significant jump in price!  Dealer adding a margin, eh?  Original ad:

5 April

10:55 AS55 G-NETR passing Ards at 500ft but continuing westwards, perhaps heading to Crewe Hill.  Seems to have set-down at Prestwick for a top-up before jumping the channel, presumably coming from Cumbernauld.

16:45 arr PA22 G-ARFD & DR10 G-BIOI in trail.

17:20 dep DR10 G-BIOI leaving G-ARFD hangared.  In for servicing.

G-ARFD is a 1960-built PA-22-160 Tri-Pacer c/n 22-7565, originaly registered N3667Z and imported in September 1960 along with three PA-22-150 Caribbeans ( G-ARFA to C ) by Vigois Aviation in Oxford.  The same company also registered Aztecs and Comanches so appears to have been a Piper dealer.

The main difference between a Carribean and a Tri-Pacer was 10hp in the engine and the amount of standard equipment; the former was the 'economy' model, though not as austere as the training-school Colt. Whereas the Caribbean had the O-320 engine burning 80-octane avgas, the Tri-Pacer had the O-320B and could use 91-octane.  Moar powar!

6 April

14:35 arr / 15:15 dep R44 G-CDCV.  Came up from the SE, probably from base in England, and away towards the north.

Same outfit that operates previous visitor R44 G-DWCE for telecoms-related surveys so perhaps it'll be back tomorrow to refuel if they follow their usual pattern.

Ta!

It's either Miami Blue or Bahama Blue, for that model year, but I haven't yet determined which.

The livery has remained fairly constant over 57 years, tweaked only to accommodate the registration on the fuselage rather than tail. Here's a 1963 photo from Peter Fitzmaurice on abpic:

16:50 arr / 18:30 dep PIVI EI-FSZ from Carrickmore and away to the west, after many many circuits.

Came home 18:00 to find PIVI EI-FSZ bashing the circuit.  Unfortunately only shots into the Sun possible at this time of day.  What, move from my gin-chair?!

That'll be the long-wing Virus, unlike EI-FEJ last week which was a short-wing Virus SW.

17:35 arr / ? dep DR10 G-AYUT.  May have snuck out but I can't see the 15 departures from here.

Club C172 G-UFCG up night flying until about 20:50.

21:00 resident R44 G-HWKS operating up around the north coast.  Any aurorae?

9 April

10:10 dep DR10 G-AYUT, had arrived 8 April

13:42 arr / 14:35 dep C82T G-BNMO. Had called through on 7 April.

He doesn't stay long on the ground, I just made it over a few minutes before the pilot returned.  Botched the take-off photos in my haste so you just get a boring static shot today.

G-INFO corrects my type code to C82T, which at first glance is odd since it's a 1979 Skylane RG equipped with the non-turbocharged O-540-L3C5D engine ( note lack of T prefix ).  However on this variant Cessna installed a separate turbo with manual wastegate control, thereby qualifying for the designation 'Turbo' even if it was a bit of an 'aftermarket' mod.

The later T182T had a TIO-540-AK1A with Lycoming's own integrated turbocharger and automatic wastegate.  Still with me?
