VIR161P (747)
« on: July 14, 2017, 10:25:09 AM »
Anyone know what time VIR161P is due into Aldergrove at? I think it was between 12:30 and 1pm last Friday. Saw it fly over here at 2:15pm on the way to Orlando.

Planning to pop up and see it arriving today, but want to make sure I'm not there far too early (kids with me) - but not late either!!

Probably one of the freighters DHL A300 or Star Air B767-I assume you mean it was something large,so these two would fit the bill if they were operating this morning.

It`s gone out over the Mournes-strange,maybe to avoid incoming traffic to BFS at similar height.

I see G-HWKS is OTT the Mournes.

It's great that we are getting to see bigger aircraft in our local area more frequently these days.

You've got the daily opportunities to see the Star Air 767, the DHL A300, and then the chances to see a Virgin 747 on Monday lunchtime, Tues morning, Friday lunchtime, and Saturday mornings. And of course, you sometimes get a TCX A330 in for the odd charter. January was an example of that with a flight to Cuba. It glided over my village nice and low as the positioning flight was coming in to Aldergrove.

Nothing beats the deep turbo fan sound of those bigger birds when they fly over during departing. Or the great spooling up and down sound of the big engines as the make their approaches.

The situation will be even better next year due to Virgin expanding from March through to Sept
