Virgin finally cancels it`s A380 order.
« on: March 10, 2018, 05:39:28 PM »
Virgin Atlantic had six A380`s on order and they had been among the first A380 customers, but it has repeatedly postponed deliveries, they were meant to be delivered in 2006.
VA have stated their intentions to include long haul twins such as the Boeing B787 and the Airbus A350-1000.

The A380 won't have a long production life left in it I don't think. It was briefly saved by the Eremites order a few months ago but with very few orders from elsewhere I think this could be the beginning of the end of production.

I had actually forgotten Virgin had A380s on order. 787 would be a better way to go than the A350.

I recall at the launch event for the A380, Branson had boasted that his planes would have casinos and jacuzzis on board  ::)

The world has changed massively since this order was placed...at the time it seemed like a vanity order, Virgin proving they could do anything the big boys could. There was also a debate as to whether these were for their premium routes (JFK, LAX) or the bucket and spade routes (they might actually have worked well on Orlando).

But Delta parentage was probably the last straw for this order. I wonder if deposits were transferred to other orders (A350s on order for both VS and DL).

787 / A350 are the future for Virgin...the 777X had a chance to replace the Gatwick 747s, but (sadly) that went to the A350. It would have been nice to see a 777-9 coming into BFS in a few years for the Orlando service!
