Belfast model shops
« on: February 11, 2019, 04:44:24 PM »
Are there any model shops still in Belfast? I know there used to be one out the back of castlecourt on Winetavern Street but it seemed to be closed last time I was there, and I think the one on Queen street is closed also. Looking to add a few new models to my collection.

Queen St one is now on Boucher Rd

Turner's is still running on Mill St in Newtownards.  Many a Friday afternoon after school was spent lusting after Fujimi there.

Surplus Revell and Airfix occasionally appear in Home Bargains if you have one of those nearby.

The one at Boucher is closed I think, the Old Toy Box in Smithfield behind Castle Court is quite good

Thanks, I'll check out the Old Toy Box when I am up at the weekend. Boucher Road model shop is listed as closed on Google now.

Ach that's a shame but noy really a surprise.  It had a fierce rivalry with Leisureworld* back in the day and its manager was poached by the big shop at one point. Can't fathom why they moved to Boucher instead of somewhere cheap and central like Smithfield or North St.

The one on Winetavern St was The Modeller's Nook.  Also Talisman, the sci-fi shop which was just up the street a bit, stocked some of the pricier models. Its manager ended-up in Forbidden Planet on Ann St.

* Saturday magical trips to Belfast: got off the bus at Oxford St, went to Wimpy for lunch and then to Leisureworld and The Model Shop.  Then Eccles Cakes from M&S to eat on the way home.

Talisman was great, it eventually became part of Forbidden Planet and moved to Ann Street.

Got many of my trading cards from there :)

Thanks for the tip on 'Old Toy Box' I could have spent a fortune. Came out with an absolutely amazing 1:72 Concorde for 20 and 3 other models.

It's like Alladin's Cave.  I avoid it because I've just no space left for anything more.

I've got about 50+ models still in packets/boxes due to no more space. Sadly I can't help myself. I'm going to need a lot more shelves.
