That's  very interesting. Especially the fact that my old school has Finucane's Spitfire. I must pay a visit next time I'm in Dublin. In my day the foyer was full of glass cases with Tommy guns, Mills grenades, IRB uniforms and other paraphernalia commemorating the struggle for independence. They even had the cravat worn by the Chief Secretary for Ireland when he was asassinated in the Phoenix Park in 1882 - complete with stab hole and blood stains.

FYI, Finucanes Log Book and one of his flying helmets are on display at the National Museum at Collins Barracks

Do you have a picture of the memorial at your old school?

I would like very much to include a picture of it with the item I have about him on my website.

Andy,  I guess you mean me. I haven't been  back there yet. I emailed the Principal some  time ago but got no reply.

I'll be going down soon and I'll be sure to get some photos for you.

It appears that the Finucane Spit is a replica - I just spotted this:

I'll still try to get a photo of it.

I visited the Museum in Collins Barracks on Tuesday and there was no sign of his stuff. I've written to the curator asking him to make enquiries with a view to locating it.

The 'replica' of his Spit in O'Connell School is actually an Airfix model.

The logbook when I photographed it.
It may not have been on permanent dispaly as the card beside it said 'Loan: Finucane family'

Ah! that could be the reason, but one of the keepers (they call them docents in the USA) said they should be there.
