Portal Disabled

As a lot of members will have noticed there have been occasions when posting of messages has taken longer than it should and has sometimes generated error messages.
I think I've tracked down down a possible reason for this - the modification that gives the forum its 'block' frontpage look. As a test I've disabled this and the forum will now look like it would if it was 'straight out of the box'.
Let me know either way whether there is a difference.
