Title: Dakota or Spitfire
Post by: String on August 25, 2008, 11:40:01 AM
Out of all the WWII aircraft my favorite is the spitfire, but in 2004 at the portrush airshow my son and i won a prize draw for a flight on the Dakota DC3, we did a fly past and the crowd was huge, as we got near ramore head the tornado fly right beside us to do it's display then we arrived later to do our fly past, it was fantastic, the draw was run by the Roadside garages in coleraine. We got picked up at DHU VARREN at driven by coach to city of Derry airport and flew around the whole area of cloeraine and other districts, again it was an amazing day weather was also great.

Sounds like one of those once in a lifetime moments - something that your son (and you) will treasure for many many years.
I do like the Spitfire but to be honest my favourite has to be the Mosquito. Saw in on display many many years ago at Newtownards.

Back then there was - late 80s/early 90s I think. As far as I know the last airworthy one crashed in 1996 with the lose of both pilots. But there are around 30 other (non-flying) examples around the world.
