Save your pennies and go to Nellis AFB near Las Vegas.

I have been twice and spent most of holiday watching the aircraft-luckily my wife enjoys them as much as I do.

First went in Nov 2002 and a Red Flag exercise was on-all US stuff no other countries but got to see almost every current US type.

Second trip was Dec 2006 and saw all sorts of goodies-B-1,B-2,B-52,F-22,Thunderbirds F-16`s (their home base),F-15`s,F-16`s,A-10`s,AV-8B`s,Blackhawks,Jolly Greens,KC-135,J-Stars,Hercs (lots of different types),F-5`s,EA-6Prowlers,A-6 Intruders,F-117`s,E-3 Sentry`s,Kiowa`s,F-18`s and even some drones-they went out just as it was getting dark.

I have pics if you would like to see-how do I post them on here?

Would love to see them. You can host them on an external site like Flickr and then use the tags to show them in a post

or you could just upload them to the gallery here

I will dig them out if I can find the disc they are on and put a few on the gallery this week hopefully.

What sort of file size is ok to use?

For the gallery maximum file size is 1meg (1024kb) and maximum size is 2048 pixels. Looking forward to seeing them :)

I have uploaded a few to the gallery-when I was there in 2002 you could stnd 100m from the runway threshold-now you have to stay on the opposite side of the road.

These shots were some of my first digital pics and were taken  during Red Flag Nov 2006.

Light conditions were tricky to say the least-some back lit and some in very low light late afternoon.

There are plenty more but just a taster for now.

Nellis is an amazing place-to see a B-52 take off or land is an unforgettable sight and sound.

I will add more pics-sorry about some of the picture quality all of the shots were at max zoom and most in difficult light.400-800ASA

The B-2 shots where taken after the sun had set and at 800ASA so grain is a bit of a problem.

Just to be able to prove that I had seen them in the flesh I'd be happy to have them in my collection :)
Is that an Aggressor F-15?
Title: Re: Your perfect lineup
Post by: Angry Turnip on October 09, 2008, 11:37:44 AM
Yes,two aggressor squadrons are based at Nellis- 64th and 65th,however I understand they are now called Adversery Squadrons.

More pc I suppose-they operate F-15C and D`s and also F-16C and D`s.The T-38 is also used at times.
Camoflage is simiulated Eastern Block in Desert or Blue/Grey schemes. The T-38`s are Black with Red markings.

I`ve put a few more Nellis pics on-including some actually taken out in the Nellis Ranges.
Included is a shot of a MH-53 or CH-53 just for Vortex 003!
Was a long way off but nice to see one.
As you might see from the pics the weather in Nevada in Dec can be rather overcast.

I believe the Beech 1900 you see in the shot is used for ILS testing and as a flying photoship-It was always on the ramp for the week we were there.

Nice line ups!

Would definitely have to add a B1 Lancer into the mix. Have always wanted to see one and they are damn noisey!!!

A high speed pass at just under the speed of sound with the wings back and a big fat vapour cone!!!

Thanks Casper, the B-52 is so big it`s almost scary to see it pass right over your head-I wish I had a video of it as well, the sight of the huge shadow crossing the desert floor as it took off was incredible-as for the noise............

Pardon.....Pardon.....Pardon  ;D
