Title: Tornado at BFS
Post by: Angry Turnip on October 03, 2008, 01:36:43 PM
Just saw a Tornado GR4 do a run and break before landing at BFS-was in the car so no pics :(

The sun was actually shining at the time and some nice vapour off the wings as he turned-Yee Haa!!!(sorry slight Dukes Of Hazard moment there ;D)

Very good. Very loud aircraft. I havn't seen a Tornado for over a year now so glad they have one coming. I wonder if they will practise their display this evening. I'm working tonight however I might try getting off sick or something :-s

As I said in another post the Tornado is may not be anything to do with the Shorts event.

Tornados,Typhoons and Hawks fairly regularly visit RAF Aldergrove as practise diversions.Normally one or two fast jets per month, either from Leuchars,Marham,Conningsby or Valley.

Whilst they often fly into Aldergrove, they wouldn't often do a fly over at the City Airport which I believe the Tornado may have done. The red Arrows display is only 25 minutes long and I presume something like a 10 minute flight from the Tornado, weather permitting. Perhaps wishful thinking on my behalf, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I understand the Tornado did a run over the City Airport-it`s not unheard of for them do do this enroute to Aldergrove.
Fast jet pilots seem to rather enjoy beating up runways!

You would be surprised how many fast jets visit Aldergrove during the summer months-it`s just that normally they aren`t in for long and most of us are at work so you don`t get to see or hear them.
Because I work fairly near BFS I do see/hear some of them.Hawks from RAF Valley are the most common visitors and also Tucano`s(OK not a jet),VC10`s and most of the fast jets, however only saw a Harrier once this summer.

There was a Tornado GR4, along with 2 Hawks from 100sqn, at NI Wing Air Cadets day yesterday at Aldergrove, so thats probably why it was over. There was also meant to be a C-17 Globemaster flying in but it didnt arrive while we were there. Did anyone else see it?
