Full story here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7679145.stm)
Pilots have been reporting things like this for decades and of course the military are going to say it wasn't anything to do with them if it happened to be some secret machine they're developing.
They're hardly going to hold their hands up and say 'yep that was Aurora, our new top secret high altitute recon bird' :)

I had a good look through this stuff and it was very disappointing-just loads of letters typed up by the MOD to thank people for their UFO sighting report-
very little info on what they actually saw (or thought they did).

Regarding the Northern Ireland sightings, the fact that all were near Aldergrove does give you a mighty big clue that they were aircraft of some sort.

I have seen a few odd things over Lough Neagh.......

Two years ago(early June/Sunday appox 3.30pm I was heading back from British Road after taking some pics from the 07 end of BFS.

Over the farside of the Lough at approx 1200-1800ft,my attention was drawn to something shiney in the sky.
It appeared metallic and seemed to reflect the Sun of it.I stopped the car and tried to take a picture of it,but it was so far out and was in haze,my camera had problems focusing.I did get something but was difficult to make out as I was shooting into haze and almost direct sunlight.
It didn`t make any movemant at all,and I watched it for 10 mins or so and then suddenly it just vanished.
I enquired from a few friends who work at Aldergrove if they had heard or seen anything unusual that day-but none had.
Still don`t know what it was-but it was very strange

So you can claim to have seen a UFO - Unidentifed Flying Object :)

There was one sentence in the first letter relating to Northern Ireland that I thought was very funny

Quote
I did not realise that helicopters travelled in excess of 3000mph in the vicinty of Aldergrove Airport

I couldn`t say for certain what I saw was any kind of aircraft-it did appear like a squashed cylinder shape, but it didn`t move-no noise,no lights-it was just sitting there.

I watched it for almost 10 mins and then suddenly it just vanished.
It`s possible it could have been some sort of reflection on the water-as the sun was almost directly behind-and there was some wispy cloud about.
I`m no weather expert so I don`t know if that could be the answer-all I can say it was there.

I can't remember the year but a pilot was flying over fife waiting to land at Edinburgh when he radioed in to ATC that there was an orange glow in the sky round like a ball, they called in a coastguard helicopter which flew over the factory i was working at, 5 Min's later it was on radio forth that it was a UFO, and it dissappeared, The next day the answer was given a nuclear sub which was in for refurb launched a flare by accident, the sky was crystal clear, But the people who saw it still believe they saw a UFO.  :o

Oh things can be so mis-interpretted. Just before the Summer I was leaving the house and as usual I heard an aircraft so looked up. I saw the aircraft but I also a stationary white disk very high up. I ran back into the house, popped the zoom lens onto the camera and went outside and took a few pictures. Only when I had downloaded the images to the computer could I see a string hanging from the bottom of the object - it was a balloon

I have also seen balloons and plastic carrier bags flying overhead at high altitude and sometimes it takes you a minute or two to twig as to what it is.

The object I saw didn`t move at all, that`s the weirdest part of it-it just sat there and not particulary high in the sky. From where I was it appeared as if it was towards the westernside of Lough Neagh but still well over the water.
Size was difficult to tell but I would estimate at least 20 feet long.

When it vanished it still didn`t move, suddenly it was just gone.
I was tempted to ring ATC at Aldergrove and ask them about it,but decided against it.
I have been interested in aircraft for over 30 years and I don`t know what this thing was-I`m not saying it was or wasn`t an aircraft, just that I don`t know what it was and it was very strange.
