Now we have also listened to the concerns of officers in relation to the need for further help with resources especially the need for further helicopter support which you have reiterated today. So I have listened and I agree. So today I am pleased to be able to announce the approval for the procurement of an additional Eurocopter 145 helicopter to support current surveillance capacity and ensure PSNI officers can be transported to locations in shortened periods of time.

A contact of mine saw an EC145 on two* occasions operating alongside G-PSNI recently - i just wonder if it was one of the Met Police ones (try before you buy ;))

*The latter instance was the homecoming parade in Belfast at the start of the month

They certainly need a second one as Lurgan takes up a lot of the time of G-PSNI lol

I think we really need one, but i thought if the psni were to get one it would be one without a tail rotor. as they have them in other areas of the uk.

The "No Tail Rotor" NOTAR MD520N machines are used by some UK police forces but it would make sense to use the same or similar to what is currently in service.

It would keep operating costs down and training much simplified.
The MD520N is a very different beast to fly than an ordinary helicopter.
