Is it just me or are the skies unusually quiet? I'd normally see some transatlantic traffic, at least a few a day but I can't recall seeing any this week.

They're passing well to the North - probably to do with the winds / jetstream?
Buy a little black box - you won't regret it ;) ;)

My sister just came up to me excitedly with a photo of an aircraft at high altitude, and she was wondering what aircraft it was. Hard to tell with her small point and shoot camera, but I'd say it was an Air France 777-300ER :)

At least you guys have time to appreciate the quietness! The past 4 weeks have been hectic due to exams with my last exam on Tuesday. Then I have to head down to Dublin Airport on the 2am Tuesday night bus for my 7am flight to Finland with Ryanair, and then a whole day of travelling to get to the girlfriends place due to Ryanair flying to Tampere which is the middle of no where!
Finally I will be able to relax for a week whilst also spending a day or two spotting at Helsinki airport :D MD-11's, A340's, *drool* If I'm lucky I might catch the odd russian aircraft in for maintence. I just dread carrying my camera around in my hand luggage incase it gets damaged. I just bought some insurance but it's probably useless as insurance these days hardly cover anything.

Invest in a foam filled case-you can cut out the foam in little sections to fit your camera and lens snugly.
I have one-got it from www.warehouseexpress.co.uk
Only cost approx £30 and it is the correct size to take on board as hand luggage.
Soft camera bags are easier to carry, but don`t offer the same levels of protection as the brief case type.
