Title: Sunset odd effect
Post by: Angry Turnip on April 18, 2015, 05:57:08 PM
I took a few shots of the sun setting the other night at BFS,mainly beccause I noticed this rather odd "pillar" of light effect.
Is this something unusual? I don`t recall seeing anything like this before-perhaps some of the more astro clued in folk could shed some light if you pardon the awful pun. :)

That is pretty!

I wonder if there were a bunch of ice crystals acting as little lenses.

I went to a great lecture some years ago by a rather eccentric chap from England who shunned his nocturnal astronomy coleagues and instead studied features of daylight.  I wish I could remember his name...
