Just came across this news report (http://edition.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/04/06/gates.budget.cuts/index.html?iref=topnews#cnnSTCText) that says that production of the F-22 Raptor is to be ended with a final total of just 187 to be built

No great surprise there as they are so damned expensive-I suspect there will be big cuts in the new JSF project as well.
I think military aircraft will just have more and more upgrades-the age of super expensive military aircraft is probably dead and buried.
Air Forces want value for money and have to stick to stricter budgets now so I would be surprised if we see the like of the F-22 again.

Funny I remember starting a topic way back when this site starting asking would it not be better for the like of America or Britain to buy more less expensive fighters than less more expensive ones?

Technology is so expensive now and who are the enemy?
Practicality and realability are much more important-the USA and Britain like to remain at the forefront of aircraft technology but the costs of developing new super high tech aircraft is ludicrous.
Bring back the F-14 Tomcats and Jaguar`s I say ;D
