Cant wait for my first trip to Glasgow! So has anyone here done Glasgow before and is willing to share tips? Oh and who is going to pray with me for a dry two days?
Getting the 0715 flybe from City (tooooo early!). Staying the night in the Premier Inn at the airport. Flying home about 8ish the next evening. So 2 chances to get a picture of the Emirates 777 espescially as the biggest airplane in my collection is the 757-2 from CO and jet2 at EGAC! Hoping for 2 days of 05 movements so I can use the mound!
And as this is my first trip spotting anywhere I was wondering if I can take my scanner? Is this ok as hand luggage? Is there anything else I should remember to pack? And is there any chance of getting any hassle form the authorities at Glasgow? Thanks
-
Sounds similar to y recent MAN trip. Premier Inn is a great hotel so no worries there.
As for Glasgow Airport itself, I'm not familar with it at all :-[ I didn't even know there were mounds! Where abouts are they? Also what dates are you going?
I'm not 100% sure about air scanner, but your camera should be ok in hand luggage. Don't forget about not taking any liquids as hand luggage. I think some airports only allow 100ml of fluid in hand luggage but other airport do not.
I believe Glasgow gets the PIA A310 on certain days so it will be cool if you catch that.

Have a wee look here for the spots:

There's even a snack bar on the way round! I'm going on Mon 20th July and back the next day. I'm not too worried bout the scanner as I think I could survive without it. The planes seem to come in a bit more frequently than the City! Looks like I'll cross a lot of airlines of the list to photo! Including British Airways even!

This trip is on Monday! So do you people reckon the last of The Open charters will be leaving from Prestwick as it will be closer to the course? Oh an PS anyone got any good tips for the open to take down the bookies? :-D
-
Ahhh cool, definately consider heading to Prestwick for a wee while if you can. It's very hit and miss there but it's a great airport that often has a few surprises on the tarmac. Also keep your eyes open for the PIA A310 which GLA seems to get often (daily I think)! Good luck with the weather!
-
Weather doesn't look good for the morning! But I have other plans to keep me occupied!
-
Finally on my trip! Looks like its going to be a sunny day here but remains to be seen what GLA is like. Got to airport and had my bag searched and x rayed twice! The woman was very nice tho which is good! Just took my first photo out the window of the upstairs cafe. And I can just see the tail of Flybe Dash-8 G-FLBB which must be a new run of deliveries??? The sardines are about to board this plane (EI-EFB) to Stanstead. Does the business man in the suit like his company being stingy and squeezing him onto Ryanair? My Dad's company always send him on bmi! Haven't eaten yet but Gregs in GLA sounds very appealing!

Nice pic! Myself and Casper saw G-FLBB and EI-EFB yesterday at around noon at BHD so cool to note they're still there. My bag is often double scanned as well and searched through as well, it must be the big cameras. Do you have your scanner with you? The weather forecast is for rain at Glasgow but the clouds should start clearing a little later on in the day. Have fun!
-
My camera was in a seperate bag and tray so not that! The nice lady took no notice of my scanner either! Maybe having loads of wires looks like a bomb?!
Anyway sitting in my hotel room having a wee break. Weather wasnt too bad. The showers only came on when there was a wee break in the movements. As soon as I arrived today I visited the police station just to say hello and make sure I wasn't going to be anywhere naughty! Left them my mobile number incase there was any trouble!
Walked the out to crash gate 2 where i spent most of the day! Suprised at how close the main taxiway out to 23 really is to the fence. And there are handy wee holes, just big enough for a lens, cut into the gate.
Few nice wee suprises today! Continental and US which i thought would have left early. The continetal FO also gave me a very enthusiastic wave out the window. Then an Air Malta A319 appeared. And Onur Air A321. A couple of Thomas Cook A330's. And then of course there was the big one! 777-300ER! The engines are huuuuuuuuuuuuge! Unbelievably big! Sitting waiting until 8pm for when I get the bus into Glasgow for a party with a few local friends!

Fantastic series of shots. Love the wave you're getting in the first one :)

Some fantastic shots there. I like the Flybe Twin Otter.
I'm heading over to Scotland myself this weekend for an airshow so might stop by Glasgow Airport myself seeing as som good pictures can be caught there.
Glad all is going well on your trip 8) Keep us all updated!
-
Well to update I arrived at the airport at 4pm for a 7.55pm flight! Glasgow was just too wet to even shop! Checked in and once again had my bag emptied and swabbed! Apparently the spare shoes i packed are full of TNT or something stupid! So went and had a pint while I was waiting and there was a fly enjoying it as well! I soon complained! Just went to gate 8 for my flight and I'm the only person here! (Well was when i started writing this the 2nd trime after deleting it the 1st time) We are all going to get soaked walking out to the plane. But did see a flydubai 738 arrive and leave on a fuel stop (A6-FDD).

I'm sure no-one will complain if I post a few more pics!
When I posted the George Best on Monday night I forgot I had also caught the Kevin Keegan earlier. That Twin Otter! Well he turned around 90 degrees on the taxi way and the reverse thrusted (by the way these never use a push back tug!) as if he was going to 3 point turn back to the terminal. But an easyjet came up on the taxi right behind so I had no idea what was going on. But then he was just doing engine tests I think.

And again...
Think I have seen this bmi at egac once. Its on a lease to them isnt it? The Air Ambulance reminded me of playing Rescue Pilot add-on for Flight Sim!

And finally....
I quite like the relfections of the runway markings on the KLM Fokker. Would be nice to have the bmi regional ERJ at EGAG. Maybe they can steal the Edinburgh route of flybe? ;D Been a long time since I last seen a 146 flying! My old favourite plane
*Edit* Helps if you attach the pictures.....

Some great shots there, you had some sun too 8)
I saw the Air Ambulance in Manchester last week but was too busy tucking into some chips at the airport pub to take any pictures ;D
Looks like you had a great time there, did you enjoy yourself and would you recommend that sort of trip to Glasgow for some spotting?
-
Would definitely recommend Glasgow for a trip! There was never more than 5 (definitely not more than 10) minutes without a movement. That spot for 23 is quite handy enough and close enough to the action. I am definitely going again maybe in early Spetember before the summer charters finish. You are only 20 minutes and a 6 quid return bus ticket away from Glasgow City Centre which is a must for a night out! The Premier Inn hotel will definitely be my choice again! Was not to expensive a trip considering I was on flybe.
Oh and I was on G-FLBB for the flight over. The FA said it was a week or so old!
-
I'd be tempted nipping across to Glasgow for some spotting. I had intended to go this weekend, but the weather was rotten and I opted to watch the F1 instead.
Ryanair are doing their £1 flights again to Prestwick, and I believe theres a £6 bus between Prestwick and Glasgow 8)
-
Yeah as long as you're staying the night that's not a bad option! When were you thinking?
-
Ryanair's £1 sale ends today (thursday night) so I better get thinking of dates!
It's probably to be a wednesday-thursday trip as its the only time I'm off work and the £1 fares are offered. ;D
Premier in certainly are a fantastic hotel. I stay with them at Manchester and the rooms seem like luxory. Two twin beds, TV, well fitted rooms, etc
-
Well let me know tonight if you get a date and want company!
-
Made a final hour book on the so called 'one quid' flights! 10 quid to use any card other than a visa electron! Booked 2 days 9th - 11th September as premier inn will be half price those nights
-
I logged on here at 1am to see you'd booked some flights so I hopped on to the Ryanair website and booked myself some tickets for £1 (thanks to girlfriends Visa Electron), an hour after the sale was ment to end.
I already had flights to MAN booked from Dublin on the 9th and 10th of September however I just booked flights from BHD to PIK on the same dates, 9th to 10th of September. I can't promise if I will be able to make the trip, but might as well book the flights just incase.
Which Premier Inn are you staying in, how do you get about, and have you ever considered spotting at Prestwick for a while?
-
You're gonna f*****g hate me Dave. I have my flights booked for 10th til 12th! Not 9th as I posted :-( Arrrrgh sorry dude. Not sure if this 2 quid thing will still be running on Friday or not. Balls! :-(
-
No problem ;D only £2 down the drain. The £1 flights were only on Wednesday and Thursday, so the trip didn't allow too much spotting time.
-
Well then if you're at Ikea for the Skyvans on Tuesday then I owe you a hotdog and chips!

Well then if you're at Ikea for the Skyvans on Tuesday then I owe you a hotdog and chips!
Any idea what time they're coming in at?
-
No idea but I'm just going on a camp out! They might put a flight plan on flytecomm tho.
-
I'll be keeping an eye on the schedules and will post as soon as I see anything appear :)

I've emailed bombardier for info. Will let you know if they get back to me.
