Monarch, the UK’s fifth largest airline, was today granted a one day extension to its licence after emergency talks with regulators.

Monarch’s ATOL licence is due to expire, but its bosses were trying to convince the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to grant it a renewal.

With the airline’s future in doubt, the CAA said it would provide a “daily update” on the status of its ability to operate its package holiday arm.

All over as of 03:30 this morning.  Engineering division will continue operating but Monarch Airlines and Monarch Travel have gone into administration.

Announcement was timed to coincide with the landing of the last MON-coded flight:

I saw elsewhere that Qatar Aw A320's had positioned to Gatwick and Birmingham to undertake "rescue" flights of now stranded passengers.

Yeah,I read that too in a few places,also some talk of United aircraft being used.

According to someone elsewhere there are 4 Air Transat aircraft sitting in Bordaux on stand by as of last night too.

LOL..

Aer Lingus, Virgin, Easyjet and I believe BA are apparently holding open days for pilots and have sent out invites to Monarch pilots.
