Among the names under consideration for a plane in which Bombardier invested more than $6 billion is “A200,” according to the people, who asked not to be identified as no decision has been made. The designations A210 and A230 would be applied to the CS100 and CS300 variants, respectively.

It was always on the cards really when Airbus stepped in,they were going to see what they could get out of the deal.

I quite like that actually.  I was never quite sure what C-Series meant; was it because it wasn't an A[irbus] or B[oeing]?  And was it CSeries, C-Series or C Series?  It was inconsistent, awkward to say, and didn't translate cleanly to other languages.

Bombardier have always been a bit rubbish at names so I can see why Airbus would want unambiguous clarity.  If it's an A210 today it'll still be an A210 in 2030.

They're even worse with construction numbers, they assign each variant a numeric range out of a single sequence and hope they don't overrun each other.  With the C-Series they jumped up to 50000 to try to escape from the encroaching CRJs.

Would A220 and A221 not be more in keeping with their current protocol?


In any case, A2xx of any ilk fits in nicely in the bigger picture...A2xx for regional aircraft, A3xx for mainline, and A4xx for airlifters...
