Title: Tail logo light
Post by: Furryforest on October 27, 2018, 04:48:58 PM
Whilst at the rugby last night, my other half noticed that none of the aircraft landing at BHD had their tail logo light on. Is it meant to be on or is it an optional?

Good question, probably best to ask one of our pilot members-Any offers? I will try and find out.

I asked a former FlyBE pilot.  For the Dash it is down to company policy and the particular airframe, not all are equipped.  From a web search: later batches were ordered without the lights, presumably to save maintenance costs.  Maybe the second-hand ones from Republic have them, I'll have to check.

They are hard to spot without those lights.

He thinks that in some aircraft ( like A320 ) it is automatically illuminated when the gear is extended, if not already commanded.   I think the EMBRAERs have them as standard, too.

I asked current FlyBe Captain, :-) he confirmed the Dash8`s don`t have them, some of the older airframes did.
The EMBRAER`s are automatically activated when the gear comes down as you say.

I remember the older Jet 2 B737`s had them in the wingtip shining back at the tailplane, which I thought was rather nifty.

Cheers folks. A BA captain told me it’s optional but he always has them on. I’ve seen a few EI A320’s without the logo light on in Dublin and at the game one of them didn’t have it. My GF is cabin crew for EI and was giving out about it!
