Post by: jasT1981 on October 27, 2018, 05:02:54 PM
Came across this in the local paper in the 'Down the Decades' section, they cover the headlines from the paper from this week in decades gone by, this week something caught my eye, SWAP, a military operation said to be the biggest peace time operation at the time. Held around Dundrum Bay, would anyone have any more info on this or even photos?

Around 6000 Army, Navy, Marines and RAF members took part in an exercise around Dundrum Bay known as 'SWAP Co Down' The biggest military exercise ever to have been planned in Northern Ireland in peace time. One of the most notable features of the exercise has been the activity of the Wessex Helicopters of 845 Air Command Squadron which have been ferrying men back and forth along the peaceful Co Down countryside a news story said.
