Yup just about to leave for a bit of festive snapping! Anyone passing feel free to say hi! Pictures to follow!
-
I might catch you down there. Myself and Woody are heading down for a while at noon.
-
don't know if you'll see this dave! but Ikea is closed! gates are over! you still gonna park in the other car park and walk over?
-
Just seeing your message now Keith. We were a bit delayed getting down in the traffic but we got there in the end. It was great putting a face to the name and the company was good, will perhaps catch you again over the Holidays. :)
-
Yup was a good day out! Nice to meet some of you finally! Just wondering if youre all still cold! Was a shame about the lack of food from Ikea tho!

We saw a good few aircraft today so it wasn't too bad, at least we got some sun in the end. My feet are still recovering though!!! It was nice to be uninterupted the whole time with the gates to Ikea closed.
I'm definately going to head down to BHD again when the next clear morning appears before the New Year passes.
Mine are all mostly similar;

Nice series of shots guys. Would have loved to have made it down but as usual had alot of last minute shopping to do :( Definitely will try and get down before the years out.

For jets I tend to shoot Aperture Priority and set it around f7 - f8. If it's low light I'll open this to f5.6 or up the ISO to 200 or 400.
Props are bit more difficult because you want to get some blur in the props but this means a slower shutter than for jets. Switch to Shutter Priority and try and keep the shutter speed higher than the focal length of the lens.

If you ever fancy meeting up, just let us know on here, I'm sure someone can get down and try helping you with the basics. Just wear multiple thick socks... spotting with numb feet isn't the greatest feeling :)
Early days however it seems next Thursday (New Year's Eve) *might* be sunny. Might nip down around then for the last spotting trip of 2009, if any one's up for it.

Certainly would be up for that. Set a time and I'll confirm closer to the time.
-
I too would be interested in going along next week weather permitting.
-
As a novice here, where do you spot from at the City airport? Wouldn't mind meeting up sometime. merv ;D
Also am trying to plan a holiday in England next summer and was wondering which is the best airshow to aim for, bearing in mind ease of access etc
-
Most of the time IKEA or B&Q are good.
-
:Welcome: Hi Merv and welcome to the site :)
As String has already said the Ikea car park is perfect for spotting at the City airport - especially the top tier.
As for airshows it depends on what you want to see - modern aircraft then it would have to be the Farnborough Airshow (19-25 July). If a mix of old and new then the International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford (17-18 July). These are just two that spring to mind, I'm sure others will recommend more :)
-
Tomorrow is due to be a sunny day if anyone's interested!
-
See that :D
-
Hi I might be there Monday also if the weather permits.
John

What time are you all thinking of heading down?
-
maybe ten-ish but i'll stay down for a good while.
-
Shamrock and me will be down for a while.
-
Thanks Casper - is there ever any problem with Ikea security? I did see a camera tripod on the top tier some time ago but assumed it was a one-off commercial shoot but obviously not. Will have to get down as it seems to be a regular haunt for you guys. merv ;D

The only time I've had problems with them was the time (along with Dave) I stood on the grass verge down by the fence - a security guard came over and asked us to move and invited us to use the car park :)
-
Looks like a nice sunny morning! What time will people be heading for? Just after 11 for me.

That's the only time I've had anyone approach me during my time at Ikea. Any time I spot at Ikea now, I still use that bank beside the fence as personally I prefer the views from there rather than the top floor of Ikea, but I guess either position is good.

Did you get down Keith? I might head down on Friday or Saturday morning, despending on weather of course.

Yeah was down from about half even to about two when the light was useless! Will try to get some photos cropped up tomorrow after work but if you look at our Christmas eve photos and change the date it's about the same!
-
Keith, I'm adament that the traffic and lighting should be good from 9am onwards, the lighting should have a nice yellow/red tint to it and the morning rush hour traffic will be in and out of the airport. It's getting out of bed early enough that's the problem! ;D Especially over the holidays!
-
Unfortunately I have to work on Friday (1st) and Saturday (2nd). I would have gone Friday but have to work that so I can have a half day on Saturday to go to Ravenhill for the Ulster match!
You're right about the 9am early light! It's even better in the middle of the autumn. Best viewed from the mound at the fence though! I'm just looking forward to Easter for the longer days to be in!
-
Planning to head over to the City tomorrow morning (weather permitting) if anyone fancies meeting up.
-
Might get a run down in the morning will be on the bridge if they are on 04
