That's a quieter weekend than I had expected, only a couple of smaller shows / festivals on the calendar:
http://www.air-shows.org.uk/2018/06/uk-airshow-calendar-2019/
-
That seems like a very sensible idea, especially if they want to get the Red Arrows. If they get the weather we had late June this year it would be a bonus.

A new flight director is being looked for also.
I wonder if Mourinho would be interested? He isn`t doing anything at the moment, other than sulking. :-)
-
Just to note, while NMD have put out a tender for a flight director, that does not mean there will be a new one. Rick Peacock-Edwards could be retained as FDD via the bidding process.
-
Confirmed as 22nd June now. Budget is similar to what a 2 day show would have gotten last year after reductions. So apx £120k basic from council without sponsorship factored in .
-
The Tucano is the first to publicly announce their dates with Newcastle on it. Great to see!
http://www.air-shows.org.uk/2019/04/airshow-news-royal-air-force-shorts-tucano-t1-display-dates-2019/
edit: Reds also confirmed.
-
Dakota now confirmed for Newcastle

-
No Typhoon for Newcastle
-
Clashing with Armed Forces Day I'm surprised they can cadge anything off the RAF.
-
Armed forces day is 29th June.
-
I believe Rick Peacock Edwards has been re-appointed Flight Director going by recent conversations with the council.
Just over a month to go, only the 3 RAF displays confirmed however the list of displaying aircraft is with the council, so just waiting on them finalising and releasing them.
With the local elections there hasn't actually been an ERT meeting since 11th March and none are scheduled until next month.
-
Armed forces day is 29th June.
The NI event is on the 22nd though.
-
Yeah, forgot we get it a week before. RAF Falcon's are going to Lisburn for it.
-
The Falcons are excellent, and rarely seen over here. Last time was... Newcastle 2013? I think.
-
I remember them jumping out of Andovers.
-

2014 jumping out of a cessena skyvan. They were due to jump in Portrush last year but weather cancelled that.
-
They have a Dornier Do228 now,it was in BFS last year C-FPSH--see my pic below.

The council is to review all current events including the FoF later this year to develop a new tourism stratagy aimed at bringing more visitors from the ROI.
Just over 6 weeks to go and still no aircraft announced outside of the RAF trio. No websites of display teams or solo displays seem to list Newcastle at all right now. Very little to 0 press about the event while other shows promote their airshows for many months before hand. I think the council need a new promotional strategy as part of their review.
I have been told the list is on the desk of the Festivals department. I do fear we will end up with small displays like the Christen Eagle, RV7, Irish Air Corps and S92. I do know they have been in contact with at least 1 jet display thankfully. But not heard of anything coming from that as of yet.
1/5th of the budget (£26k) has gone on hiring a company to provide food/drink services and entertainment on the ground. The council used to accept applications from traders and charge the traders, but now they seem to be paying for outside companies to arrange that for them.. A waste of money I think that could go on the flying budget.
-
Expecting to post another confirmation on Monday. Spoke to council who have given me permission to do so.
-
Blades added. Being announced at 6pm.
-
The Blades always have done a good show at Portrush. A little more enjoyable than the fast jets as they can get in closer.
-
Less than 2 weeks to go now.
Line-up should be revealed this week. They were hoping to get it uploaded on Friday, but that didn't happen. Press releases going out tomorrow so I expect line-up between tomorrow and Wednesday. The jet display I mentioned is listed for Weston that day so looks like that is out.
Leaving it quite close. For once I actually don't know what's coming aside from the RAF and Blades. No display teams outside those confirmed already have Newcastle listed, and the usual ones are down for Weston such as Rich Goodwin, Ravens etc.
-
Gotta be honest, unless they reveal an F-35 (or Su 35!) display it doesn't look wrth the bus fare.
-
I was going to bus it this year but with 2 weeks to go I think they are hoping that people have already booked their stay before the final lineup. Between Newcastle and Portrush not sure who takes the prize this year for the least promotional effort!!......"They were hoping to get it uploaded on Friday".......again,council hoping that accommodation will be booked out before anything final is announced. The blades were excellent in Duxford well worth going to get a pic for the competition to fly with lingy!! Shame to work in shorts and not get to see the Tucano display :( Not worth the hassle especially with 3 kids...1 or 2 no shows would be a disaster and still can't get out of my head seeing the typhoon dip below the clouds before the whole show cancelled last year. Can't see anything posted on Rich goodwins' site either :( If anyone is looking for a petrol/diesel paying passenger then I would go for the day and leave the kids at home to play on their phones as dragging them to Newcastle would be a waste of time. We desperately need a paying display in the north and wasting 1/5 of the budget providing food/entertainment in a seaside town is a joke!!..think there were enought food places milking it the last few years!! I spent more in Newcastle in the past (breakfast, lunch , dinner, amusements, petrol etc) taking the kids than it cost for my flights £49 and tickets for 2 days £50 into duxford this year!!!
-
....."They were hoping to get it uploaded on Friday"......
That maybe was a wrong choice of words on my behalf.
I am looking forward to the Tucano, and the Blades were fantastic at Duxford. I'm actually not to bothered by no Typhoon, it's gotten rather tame over the last few years and I didn't think it was overly great at Duxford. Kind of has been toned down since the fantastic display in 2015.
Rockwell Collins are again the main sponsor.
-
Rich Goodwin is coming :) Always a great display
-
Thats a nice plus :)...really enjoy Richs' display and the Typhoon seemed to exit a bit early on the Saturday....thought it might have had gone Tech?
-
Yeah, it just exited out of a roll to the right. Seemed very unplanned. Usually its a vertical climb to finish the display. Sunday's seemed more polished.
Wingwalkers have said they are coming to Ireland in a few weeks, I assume Newcastle. The Wingwalker ladies did say they were going to be in Ireland again soon after Bangor last weekend when I spoke to them at Duxford ( and got a selfie with them :) )

Usual stuff coming then! ::)

Still has the largest collection of jets anywhere in Ireland this summer lol
-
The lineup is being revealed tomorrow. It is a pretty fun line up, mostly aerobatic displays and teams.
I am looking forward to the show, though it does contain quite a few of my favourites on the seaside circuit.
-

I can't see myself visiting any of the others either TBQH. I mean, I know storage is cheap these days but there's only so many pics of the IAC CASA, the Canso and the Huey/Loach Combo I need in my life.
Bray still looks to be the best option on the island for variety, but even it's tame this year and the cost of visiting it (with the Mrs. placating extras) would more than cover heading across the water for an exercise related base visit.

I priced Bray going down to Bray, and it was almost going to cost what it cost me to go to RIAT this year (until I added Pimms and Grandstand onto it)
-
Whilst it's a free show there's nothing of interest for me. Is that the full line up. If so it's gonna be a short one
-
Still more to be announced :) Check your PMs in a few mins
-
Still more to be announced :) Check your PMs in a few mins
Can you pm me some more announcements?
-
Not wishing to steal JasT1981`s thunder, but I don`t think there is anything more to announce other than what aircraft the IAC (if any) are sending.
Some sites are saying 4x PC-9s, some are saying a single PC-9, and some the Casa 235, and some don`t mention the IAC at all.
Big question is....when is the rain going to stop?
-
It's the AW139 and the CASA from the IAC.
There was mention of the Irish Aerobatic display team on the original press release which is now been removed. Quite a few, including myself thought it was the PC9s
4 more announcements to come that are not fully public yet. Wingwalkers, Global Stars, Irish Coast Guard S92 and Team Raven. Speculation is AerDynamics RV7 display team could be added and this was the Irish Aerobatic team mentioned.

I'm seriously considering packing it in after this year. Stress levels are too much lol
-
Times for some displays
Team Raven 1:30pm
Dakota 2pm TBC
Wingwalkers 2:35pm
Red Arrows 3pm
Tucano 4:30pm
Blades 5:20pm
-
Wonder will the Dakota and Tucano use BFS along with The Reds Arrows?
-
Dakota will likely just fly in from England, display and head back to England.

Dakota is using Blackpool as a base tomorrow. So no stopping at Aldergrove. No word on Tucano

Think the Tucano arrived at Aldergrove this afternoon
-
Absolutely brilliant day of flying. Wingwalkers were my favourite display. Global stars were popular with the family. As per usual everyone left after Red Arrows.
Without doubt the best airshow the NMD council have put on since merging with the old council of Down District who put on the shows pre-2015
-
To be honest, airshows in this country have become so boring, I just cannot bring myself to attend.
Prefer to nip up to Aldergrove these days if I want to see something up close. More action up there.
On the day of Newcastle, I got to see the Reds depart for the show. Got to see the new A320 NEO fly right over me, watched a Jet2 737 Classic, saw the Tucano depart for the show, and saw the reds fly right over me and do their usual vertical climb and shower over the airport, and then fly right over me one by one to land. All in the space of about an hour.
Can nip up any week and see the Virgin 747 coming in. Heck, it's done some nice flyovers of Belfast city some mornings. And thanks Virgin... You mostly now depart runway 25, turn to the south, and fly right over my house at a few thousand feet on your way to Orlando. So a nice view of it any Sat or Sun when the sky is clear enough.
Honestly, more action at home and our local airports.
-
It's not just here, outside of the couple of famous "biggies" most shows now are more akin to the "barnstorming" shows of the early days of aviation than what I was used to growing up in the Eighties and I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in them.
-
I may be in the minority, I still really enjoy the Newcastle show. My only complaint this year was the Dakota and Tucano were too far out. Everything else was ok for a 300mm lens.
Though yes, I have had to find myself going to RIAT, Duxford and Cosford (and even Heathrow) to satisfy my airshow needs. I look at Newcastle as a fun family day and just sit back and relax on the lawns of the Slieve and enjoy whatever comes.
Newcastle 2014 and Portrush 2015 were the last shows here aimed at enthusiasts, and I don't see those days coming back.
Even Bray has been hit hard this year.
Images from FB so quality has been reduced.

For my 2pence worth, any clips I have seen of the majority of Newcastle shows, almost everything is too far out for 95% of the display for any decent photos.
Aerobatic prop display teams are of very little interest to me,The Blades do something a bit different, but the others are just plain boring, and we have seen them
all so many times before.Even the Reds were miles out from videos I have seen, well at least the weather behaved itself this year.
I have never gone to the show at Newcastle, and this years lineup wasn`t going to change that situiation.
-
I do think living in Newcastle sways my feelings lol. It's great to have a show on my doorstep. But a bit like Portrush, if I lived elsewhere it might be harder to bring myself to go.
-
I have included a link to my work in progress FLCKR page...too many photos to convert and post. I loved Newcastle this year....from a photographic point of view... I agree with Mr AT on some of his points.... displays where so far out that the person I was with who had a 300mm lens gave up. I struggled with the Tucano display using the 600...no idea why he was so far and the wingwalkers so close in!!!The only thing missing was the wildcat aerobatic team and to be honest if Newcastle had of had them as well then the smoke set would have been completed :) Still had to crop my photos on the small stuff but a 300 is deffo a waste of time these days!!! Roll on Duxford Flying Legends!!! The bretling Jet team would be great for Newcastle!!!
