I must say I'm seriously impressed that everyone concerned managed to get together and save the airshow. Fantastic stuff! Also the airshow cancellation got a good bit of media attention, perhaps highlighting what a hugely successful event the airshow actually is.  :)

However it was pointed out last week that if the organisers wanted the Red Arrows they had to book them by Friday (26th Feb). Given that the green light was only given last night, was this done?

Power to the People!!!!!  ;D

Well Done to all concerned for making a racket and getting the Airshow re-instated.

I wrote to my MP( I had to look it up to see who it was  :) -not something I would do normally); about it and they were angry about the cancellation as well;so it just shows that sometimes if enough people get behind an idea,it can work. :D

Great to see, also great to read that they are attempting to build plans to secure a future for next year too. Dont want this to turn out to be a stay of execution !

Over the moon that  the Airshow will now be taking place, but I still think that a lot of questions need to be answered concerning the reasoning for the cancellation in the first place, are we going to end up in the same situation next year?. We really need to put pressure on all concerned to ensure the future of this fantastic event.

I think it would be a good idea for volunteers at the airshow to collect donations to fund the following years show-I don`t think people would mind paying in a few quid.

For a donation of £2 or more, you could get a "Friend Of the Portrush Airshow" sticker.

They did that at last years show. You got a sticker saying "I'm supporting the Portrush airshow", or words to that affect  :)

I still have it on my camera. One of the benefits of having a battery pack attached  ;D

I didn`t know they had collected for that at previous shows:what did they do with the money from last year then???

I have only ever been asked to buy programmes (which I do),or donate to the RAFA,RNLI and Air Ambulance (which I also do).

Still think it would be a good idea to do it every year, and with all the problems in getting this years show to go ahead maybe people would be more inclined to contribute.

Last year was the first time they had actively collected. Don't know if they ever announced how much they raised or what happened to it.

Agree that they should do this every year. Given how many people go, a £1 donation wouldn't break the bank. In fact the announcer had said at last years show that if every person in the crowd gave £1 it would cover the cost of the next show easily.

I too buy a programme every year and always give a donation to the the RNLI.

Gents, I have never seen anyone collecting at the show apart from the people selling programs, I thing the air cadets/army cadets were doing collections but were for different causes altogether. I totally agree that even giving a donation of perhaps £2.00 would raise a fair amount of money, if not from the `casual` spectators, but from the Aviation enthusiasts who I know would only be too willing to give. Casting my mind back to last year, I was speaking to Ken from Air supply who was doing the commentary and he made a real effort to tell myself and others to please write to our MLA`s to `Big up` the show to try and secure its future. Certainly makes you think.

An interesting point, CBC have probably been giving negative comments to the organisers since last year or possibly beyond, and no doubt have been shamed into providing the funds for next year, I wouldn't take it for granted that they would be in the same frame of mind next year, the retailers, hoteliers etc need to be involved with the airshow for next year/s. As they are the ones who benefit the most. Must admit I didn't think we would see the airshow return if it had been lost this year,

From memory the full Reds display schedule sometimes appears in March, but doesn't usually appear until April/May.

It's great to see that the show has been saved.... :goodjob:   And i look forward to heading up for the show....  However i cant help wondering if the uncertainty over the show in the last few weeks has had a effect on the acts that were due to display..

According to the Reds official site all requests must be in by the  previous September at the latest....
Quote
The Royal Air Force Events Team receive more than 300 requests fordisplays by the Red Arrows each  year, but only about 80 can be fittedinto the team's summer programme. All bids must be made in writing  before the end of September for the following summer. The Red Arrows’display season generally begins in May and finishes in September eachyear, and the Team are unable to display outside this period.

I think the reds are booked. You couldn't have an airshow without them the are ACE. And the are the biggest draw for the event.
