Post by: George on March 09, 2010, 11:13:07 PM
Hey all,

This got announced at the Air Cadets meet up last week.

An air display has been confirmed for Newcastle [Co.Down] for the 7th And 8th of August as part of the Harry Ferguson Festival Of Flight. More details to follow on attending displays ect. But i thought i would post this up anyway.

Just found this on a quick google search, though it dates from last year it gives abit of info.

I believe there was a new directive issued to the Red Arrows that they would only display on one day of multi-day events,so other shows had a better chance of booking them.

Which is understandable, although I see they are flying everyday in the big events RIAT, Biggin Hill etc, still weather permitting hope to see them at the Port and Newcastle. Hopefully Newcastle may be the start of another Airshow on a regular basis. I can imagine the queue of traffic trying to get into Newcastle, I think I'll leave the house about three days before the event :) :) :)

Yeah, you are right, the traffic will be a complete nightmare-it`s bad enough at the best of times.Unfortunatly Newcastle is a bit of a knuckle trailer-magnet,so I don`t relish the thought of carrying £1500 worth of camera around.

I wonder where the display line will be?

With the news that the Hawk aircraft have been grounded because of a fault found with ejector seats, I wonder if the Red Arrows will be displaying at Newcastle on Saturday

Might be best to see what the Red Arrows PR people say about the display before travelling.

No info on the Red Arrows site about the grounding of the Hawks which I find a little strange, considering the bulk of the media have been reporting the Reds have been grounded.

Weather for Saturday looks a bit ropey, a lot of cloud and showers some of which could be heavy, winds to be light westerly which is good.

Anybody going to Newcastle to see the display?

I think it could be a great venue with a superb backdrop with the right weather, but the traffic will almost certainly be a real nightmare.

I'll be there too. There's Park And Ride facilities on the Castlewellan   Road with buses laid on from 11am until 9pm so I might well make use of   them.

Thought about going as Newcastle is just down the road, but I'm thinking instead of heading up to Aldergrove to catch them there.

Hi staking, lovely photos but to be honest putting them into a video doesn't do them any justice. Alot of quality is lost in the conversion.

Some lovely shots;looks like the weather co-operated but noticed an awful lot of birds in the You Tube clip :o

Birdstrike could have been a very real possibility.

Quite a few clips of the display on you tube;most are pretty dreadful but look for Mr Sarcastic Fantastic`s clips as they are much better and are in short 1-2 min sections.

Not an easy thing to film but he/she has done well.

I think calling the video clip of the 2 helicopters "close encounter at the slieve donard" was a bit dramatic.

Didn't seem thst close from were I was sitting  ;)

The photos of the Reds and the Casa are great but did anyone get any of the 2 R44s at the Slieve Donard?
