Sadly The Blades display team announced today they will be disbanding. They have cited 'continued degradation of the air show circuit, with more and more events being lost'
A great display team made up of former Red Arrows pilots who were very popular on this island and displayed here many times.

That`s a shame, but not entirely a great surprise due to the way many airshows have disappeared. However I can`t help but feel that they may have shot themselves in the foot so to speak.
The Blades team are the main public face of 2Excel Aviation, and without the team promoting the company, they may well struggle. Perhaps they got too big, too soon.
I know many of us have scoffed at The Blades to some degree, and called them a retirement home for Ex-Red Arrows, but they did put on a hell of good show.
Also they were one of the few UK display teams that really enjoyed the welcome they got here, and they always made an effort to support the NI Airshows.

So many have disappeared recently. And I think more will disappear over the coming months. Blades were a good team, met the pilots a number of times at Duxford. Always very committed to shows on this island.

Sad news - maybe the pilots will get together and form a new team?
If not, it's one less display team for the loads of NI airshows take place... :-\
