US-based United Airlines and Continental Airlines have agreed a deal to merge, creating the world's biggest carrier.
The company said it expected the deal, worth $3.2bn (£2.1bn) to deliver savings of more than $1bn a year.
The combined group will be named United Airlines, with new branding combining the current Continental colours with the United Airlines name.
Continental's boss Jeff Smisek will head the new company.
He will take on the role of chief executive, while United Airlines' Glenn Tilton will serve as the non-executive chairman, in a deal described as "a merger of equals".
Together United and Continental currently fly to 370 destinations worldwide, flying 144 million passengers.
Mr Tilton called the deal "great... for our customers, our employees, our shareholders and our communities".
More great photo opportunities for BFS here and possible new types flying in also :)

I'm not a fan of the current Continental livery, a bit of a shame they're retaining it during the merger. :-X Maybe the traditional BFS 757 will be upgraded to a 767? Or eventually a 787? The demand possibly doesn't justify such an upgrade but one can hope :D

The Continental flight from BFS to Newark tomorrow has been cancelled. :-\
Continental`s flights to Newark were always 80-90% full when I worked at BFS,so a B767 might be a possibility.

Might be to do with the ash returning and airspace closing again

That`s what I thought-the Northerly winds for the past few days have pushed the cloud towards us again ::)

I wonder if we will see any United branded planes into BFS as the fleets are merged and before they are repainted, or will the CO planes currently based at EWR and used on its routes be kept there?
Also have to agree with Dave, not a big fan of the CO livery, would much prefer to see something like this. (http://www.cardatabase.net/modifiedairlinerphotos/search/photo_search.php?id=00012191&size=medium)
