It's been a while since I had been down to BHD, partially because the weather we've had has been rotten until this weekend. Didn't see anything unusual, just the usual gathering of Flybe Q400's and Embraer 195's, Ryanair 737's and an Easyjet A319. RWY 04 was used for all departures whilst both RWY's were used for arrivals.

Nice shots as usual Dave.....

Very nice Dave, one point from a personal view maybe a bit lower on the shutter speed for a bit more prop blur?

Thanks Paul ;D I'd normally crank the aperature number up to F13+ for the prop aircraft however the purpose of my trip to BHD on Friday morning was to test out why the autofocus wasn't focusing properly on my Canon 100-400mm. I was trying to determine whether it was a lens or camera body fault so I wasn't too bothered about catching aircraft, just testing the lens.
Turns out that the lens, which was delivered new at the end of June, has a problematic autofocus. I only got around to trying the lens for the first time last week due to the bad weather over the past month so I missed the 14 day deadline to return the lens to the shop. Now it has to be sent off for a warrenty repair, leaving me with no 100-400mm for my Amsterdam trip next week. :-[ :'(
From the above photos, G-FLBA, G-EZAY and G-JECE were all caught with manual focus, and all I can say is never again!!!

You're not having much luck with that lens Dave. Isn't this your second one?

Indeed, I originally had a second hand 100-400mm which required a repair following a year of use. I then changed that for a Canon 300mm F4 to try out. Whilst it was an amazing lens, I missed the range of the 100-400mm so sold the 300mm Prime for a mini profit (prices had just increased since the purchase) and bought a brand new Canon 100-400mm. :D
Unfortunately the autofocus doesn't appear to be functioning but I'll try it on a friends camera this evening to ensure it's not the camera that's faulty. So no, not much luck at all with the Canon 100-400mm lens, although when the lens does work... it's a cracker! :D Unfortunately it leaves me with no proper lens for Portrush either so thats that out of the window. :(
