i just finished my work experience there not so long ago. I LOVED IT! I didnt want to leave the airport. I was in the control tower and then the radar room. Both were cool however the radar room seem stressful as you are controlling the whole of northern irelands airspace. In the control tower all you done was give the clearance for the plane to land and tell them where and how to park, for example, there was an easyjet flight inbound from edinbourgh. He had to taxi to gate 22 via taxiway bravo and alpha. It was sooo fun. I actually got to talk to the pilots as well. i was talking to the ATC controllers and they said that you dont have to attend university to be an AT Controller. I looked at their website and they were right. just complete A Levels so im going to apply after i complete my A Levels. And OMG, :o your not going to believe what happened? There was 6 jaguars that came in. They came from Scotland. They landed 2 at a time. The done a run and brake (which means that they landed on the runway and didnt use their brakes to slow down which means they sped past us). it was cool. I also seen a Puma helicopter. i want to go back, lol. i managed to get a few photos of the jaguars. i managed to get them while i was on my break as your not allowed your phone on while in the tower. I LOVED IT! ;D The photo's ill try and get posted as soon as.

Sounds like you had a great time :) I was in the control tower & radar room once but only for a few minutes. As for the Jaguars, you lucky sod. I'd have loved to have seen that many of them at once. Did you get a chance to talk to them or listen in on their coversation with the tower?

i managed to listen in but never got to talk to them. One of the pilots decided to do an IFR to land. Unfortunally he was too fast and ended up half way down the runway before he could stop. Jeffin in the control tower was rippin at him as he missed his turn of point so he had to backtrack back up the runway which made it unavailable for a bout 5 minutes.

Shouldn't have been a major problem. After all Aldergrove isn't the busiest of airports :)
