Title: BHD
Post by: CanonJohns40d on October 15, 2010, 09:51:37 PM
Hi Guys I have just taken delivery of the new Sigma APO 50-500mm F4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM lens for my Canon 40D. I had a quick visit to BHD, up on the footbridge, on Monday last to give the lens it's first run out. The Aircraft were landing 04 and then sadly for me departing out over the Lough. The light while bright was a little against me. Anyhow here a few from the trip, comments welcome.

John

Ahhh, a new lens, how are you finding it? I've been interested in how the new "Bigma" performs with optical stabilisation. Nice photos as well!  ;D

The car park is a good area to photograph from and I have sat in the car for several hours and never been bothered by anyone,

Last I heard the top deck is still closed to cars for 'health & safety' reasons  ::)

You were able to walk up without any bother, is this still the case?

I was on Level 1 in the Ikea car park on Saturday but noticed that the stairs up to the top level were roped off with some sort of 'do not enter'-type sign. Does anyone know if it's ok to still use these stairs to get to the upper level? I wasn't sure whether to take the chance or not. Thanks.

Last time I was at Ikea I was able to go on to the top deck after speaking to security, who had no objections. From what they told me at the time, provided you let them know beforehand then generally its not a problem.

I don't know if that's still the case, haven't been back for a while now.

I think that the reason this was roped of was because many cars were going up there and a lot of food waste was getting left their. This attracted the seagulls which isn't the best thing to happen right beside an airport. The security will never have any problem with a few of use going up there to take photos. BECAUSE WE'RE RESPONSIBLE AND WILL ALWAYS LIFT OUR RUBBISH!  ;)

Next time I go I'll check with them to make sure it's ok. Like you said, being responsible and keeping the area clean etc keeps the top level open for everybody else!

Its ok to go to the top deck in ikea as long as you ask the security. My bro works for ikea and is good friends with the security. They closed off the top deck as when it got dark etc people were going up in their cars for a bit of bonking lol they started to get fed up with this and thats why its closed off. But i usually just park at the downstairs part and stand up on the grass bank were the buses turn. Loads of people have said oh you'll get moved etc. But harbour police were round etc and didnt even get out to chat. No one says anything here and pictures are pretty awsome.
