Post by: CanonJohns40d on March 20, 2011, 11:34:22 AM
HI Guys if you have not already done so this site is offering interesting coverage of Libya Crisis Aircraft operating from Malta.

Superb quality audio coverage. I am currently hearing French Airforce and a Navy chopper on the ground awaiting clearance.

I should have added there is also the civvie traffic and allied to my radarbox zoomed into Malta this is a great way to spend a Sunday morning. Navy call sign still on the ground awaiting stores clearance.
Also been off the site for a while as my wife died from Breast Cancer on 4 February 2011. I'm just starting to get involved again.

Reported a U2 is also in the aera Dragon callsign. I didn't believe the Global Hawk but it appears it has to co-ordinate with other traffic hence the controller can be heard.

Yeah .... :) you don't expect a UAV to talk back.
It definitely is one though, as one was reported a few days back.

Hi Mark indeed never thought I'd hear an unmanned vehicle. Reported on several other sites so yes we are correct that it is what we thought it was. It seems it might also be fitted with Mode S for when it will be training and transitting controlled airspace. Interstingly the U2 reported his height as 700 when he normally only advises higher than 600. It has been speculated this was as he was co-ordinating with the UAV controller and Malta ATC. Some very intersting stuff today also, very busy with multi National resources.

If it's of interest the UAV is airborne on Malta frequency at 22.15pm. Forte callsign there might actually be two.
