The defeats of Man City, Liverpool & Rangers (don't mean to upset anybody) should lead to a good day at Dublin Airport on Wednesday 18th May 2011. There are now three portuguese, two dutch, two russian and one spanish side in the quarter finals.

Your a bit late..... ;D

I'm hoping for both Russian teams to progress to the final, really hoping to see some Russian metal in Dublin :D So personally I'm going for FC Spartak Moscow and Dynamo Kyiv. I'd also maybe settle for Braga (Portuguese) in the final. ;D
So far in the first round of quater finals, FC Spartak Moscow are losing 2-0 and Dynamo Kyiv are drawing 1-1.
-
After the first leg the state of play is:
Benfica 4 - 1 PSV Eindhoven
Dynamo Kiev 1 - 1 Braga
FC Porto 5 - 1 Spartak Moscow
Villarreal 5 - 1 FC Twente
Spanish and Portugese in the driving seat, so far.
Spartak are going to need a miracle to turn their match around.
Kinda like Spurs ;D

Hahaha rotten! Still hope for Dynamo Kiev at least ;D I suppose any team that gets through will bring some decent aircraft to Dublin on the 18th. Air Europa and Spanair would cover the majority of Spanish flight's. Luzair and TAP might do the majority of the Portuguese teams flights, I can't think of any other Portuguese airlines...

Ok, down to the Semi Final's now, 1st leg playing on the 28th April.
Benfica (POR) - Braga (POR)
Porto (POR) - Villreal (SPA)
So we'll be seeing at least one Portuguese team in the final. Last year's final was played in Hamburg between Athletico Madrid and Fulham which meant a lot of interesting movements at Hamburg including flights from Jet2, Thomson, Europe Air Post, Iberia A340, Pullmantur 2x 747's, Iberworld A330, Mint 757, and a tonne of other stuff, so we migth get lucky this year with some large aircraft :D

So for anyone that's going down to Dublin on the 18th, how you getting there? I'm hoping to get the 5:30am bus from Banbridge.

Driving.
Haven't decided yet whether to drive down the night before and stay over.

Probably getting the 4 or 5am bus myself down then hopefully catching the blue carpark bus across to the opposite side, depending which runways in use (hopefully RWY 10). I'd rather be there early and ready to photograph at around 7.30ish ;D
-
I have seen this floating around in a few places;
"Dublin Airport expects to handle in the region of 100 extra charter flights specific to the UEFA travelling fans, whom number in the region of 25,000 passengers.
There will not be any provisions made for visiting plane spotters. The outer perimeter road will be used extensively during the event to transport travelling supporters to and from their bus transport in the Blue car park, therefore we would not encourage increased activity from cars stopping to view aircraft."
-
Moral of the story - get there early :)

Will I put a few reserved signs up? Just in case?? ;D
-
Will I put a few reserved signs up? Just in case?? ;D
Definitely ;D
In fact just tape off a whole area and mark it 'Reserved' ;)
-
If it's going to be RWY 28 in use as the winds are currently suggesting (a bit early to be 100% accurate though), then things could become quite awkward. I can imagine a fair few photographers turning up and with the limiting parking spaces and small spotting area, it could be quite packed.
Mind you it might be worth venturing up half way along the runway to the entrance of the Blue carpark, that way you get both aircraft rotating on departures as wel las aircraft braking to a stop during landing.
I'm still hoping for RWY 10 to be in use though. ;D
-
Might park in the blue 6.50 euro for the day
-
Might park in the blue 6.50 euro for the day
Thinking of doing that as well.
Do you need to pre-book or can you just turn up and park?
-
I parked in the Red for madrid merlin. It was 7.50 but only cos I prebooked it. Think it's an extra 20% or something to park there on the day just.
-
Just bear in mind that the blue car park will be used as the gathering point for all the fans before being transported onwards to the Aviva Stadium.
-
also you will have to go to the airport buildings to pay the ticket to get your car out...
-
I think that statemant re spotters from Dublin Airport Authority is a bit ignorant. >:(
There maybe some folk that just abandon ship where ever the notion takes them, usually its joe public that does that and not enthusiasts.
I find most folk down at Dublin are sensible and don`t cause any problems at all.
-
The parking plan for the aircraft looks tight... :o

-
:o Is that actually the parking plan for the day? Crikey!
-
Got a we heads up today there is expected to be 150 additional aircraft movements at Dublin on the 18th, I am assuming that is in and out bound.
Additional staff are being sourced for Dublin handling agents.
Paul
-
Geee! We might see some in Belfast at that rate!
-
Cor Blimey O`Reilly, not much room left at the Inn. ;)
Could be fun getting them all out again-the ground handlers will be flatout poor guys.
-
Is there a curfew on DUB like at BHD? Could be a long night for ATC if there isn't!
-
No curfew at DUB... Most of the charters are due to depart between midnight and 4am...
It looks like we might be lucky with the weather...
Another band of rain will cross the country on Tuesday night and will be followed by showers on Wednesday with some brighter spells at times. Becoming noticeably cooler on Wednesday with highs of only 10 to 14 degrees in fresh westerly winds. The active is going to be 28 by the look of it too...
So ''Dave's perch'' could be in for a busy day..... ;)
-
Weather report for Wednesday courtesy of RTE:
WEDNESDAY: A cool, blustery day, with a mix of sunshine and widespread showers. Some of the showers will be heavy and possibly thundery across Connacht, Ulster and west Munster, though parts of the southeast will stay largely dry. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees, in a fresh to strong and gusty westerly wind, moderating later in the evening.
---
Might escape with a good day :-\
For those heading to DUB on Wednesday, do you want to agree a place to meet up?
I'm heading down tomorrow (Tuesday) night and staying over at the Crowne Plaza @ the airport. Considering taking the hotel shuttle bus over to the airport on Wednesday morning and then the bus out to the Blue Long Term parking around 7-30/8am.
I'm going on the assumption that there will be a lot of cars about on Wednesday so parking (I imagine) will be at a premium.
-
Think we might be alright for parking - Hammerhead said that he would be there early with his 'Police - Do Not Cross The Line' tape and cordon off a large parking area for us. :LOL
-
With the amount of security around Dublin at the moment I'll be leaving my tape at home... :)
I cant see any problem parking as long as your there early...
-
I see some charters arriving in tomorrow morning according to the Dublin Airport arrivals list, with Sata Airlines sending in 4 flights in the morning. There will probably be a few more tomorrow night before the bombardment on Wednesday morning.
As for myself... I think it will probably be the 4am bus down to Dublin, then a quick hot breakfast somewhere in the terminal, then probably walk around to the Perch ;D I was planning to catch the bus to the Blue carpark but with RWY 28 in use, the perch would probably be better. :)
Dave
-
then a quick hot breakfast somewhere in the terminal
You mean a McD's :)
-

After the trouble he had trying to order one in Madrid? :D
-
I was thinking more along the lines of a hot sausage roll and a baguette ;D although I should hope ordering at a McDonalds in Ireland will be a damn bit easier than Madrid!
-
Not if you order in the one on O'Connell Street. Might be different now but a few years ago it was very multilingual :)
-
Well I hate to put hope into the hearts of fellow spotters but...
Tomorrow's weather might not be so bad at all :) Partly cloudy according to this site;
http://uk.weather.com/weather/tomorrow-Dublin-EIXX0014 (http://uk.weather.com/weather/tomorrow-Dublin-EIXX0014)
And not a total disaster either according to this website;
http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/today.asp?zipcode=eidw (http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/today.asp?zipcode=eidw)
Fingers crossed! Keep an eye on the Dublin Airport Arrivals page for tomorrow, it shows flights 24 hours in advance so tomorrow mornings charters are starting to show with already some extra airlines listed.

A few interesting aircraft arriving in today, Sata Air have been sending in a few A310's and Euro Atlantic also sent a 777 (http://www.airliners.net/photo/Untitled-(Euro-Atlantic/Boeing-777-212-ER/1906899/L/&sid=d457c248c29579e11db9a853ec552435) today. Doh!
-
Also due in tomorrow are 2 C-17s with Marine one and the Beast (Obama's limo) :)
-
Seen this lunchtime at Dublin Sata International Cs-TKJ (320), CS-TGU (310) and Air Mediterranee F-GYAZ (321). Also CS-TFU (319) of Omni Aviacao Technologia (OAV) with "Porto" titles. This aircraft is parked up with engine covers so it should still be there tomorrow.
Have heard that Porto have returned 2,000 tickets. I hope this does not reduce the number of flights tahat are expected.
Enjoy tomorrow the weather forecast is reasonable . Overcast but no rain expected. I shall park and stay on the back road on the northside of the runway where hopefully it shall be less busy.

Well I noticed the two Corsair 747's are not on tomorrow's list of arrivals plus a few other aircraft. :( Maybe that's why? All the aircraft seem to be flying in from Porto, what about all the Braga FC fans, where are they coming in from, possibly Porto as well?

First one home ;D
Big thank you to the guys for a very enjoyable day, and yes my feet STILL hurt.
An initial run through my photos showed quite a good selection given the 'fluctuating' weather today.
While I am disappointed at the no-show by the 747's, the 4(?) US Army Chinooks did make up for it.
Would still like to have seen the C-17's ;)
Photos need a bit of a tidy up but will post a selection ASAP.

Certainly an interesting day at Dublin, the weather was quite a handful at times, definitely kept everyone on their toes. The charter arrivals were all very impressive, I think I saw 10-15 new airlines today alone. Seeing the Chinooks was pretty cool although a shame they landed on the far side of the airport. >:(

Very nice Don, I'm gutted I left before the Jet2Manchester arrived in, but the temptation of a McD's was just too powerful to overcome! Also great shots of the lineup of parked aircraft, very nice indeed. I was asleep within 10 seconds of sitting down on the bus... best bus ride home ever as I can't remember anything about it! ;D
