The runway is closing around 9:00 so runway 17/35 is going to be in use. Guess its grass cutting. ;D
-
On the Aldergrove info service it says "There is significant bird activity on the airfield, continuious bird scaring is in progress. The 25 ILS is out of service and the 17 glideslope is out of service, runway 25 is closed."
It doesn`t mention why its closed, but grass cutting is a possibility.
Will probably cause a few delays later.

Looks like its going to close again from 8:30-5:30 today.

They seem to be landing on 35 - this is something I have never seen. I assume this is very unusual?

It is very unusual to land on 35. Normally it would be 17 if using the alternate runway. All depends on the wind.

This could turn into a Tom Jones song ;)
Runway 35 is used when the wind is coming from the North and 17 if it`s a Southerly-the wind at Aldergrove has been variable for the past day or two.
You may have noticed with the awful weather we have been having recently, that it`s more like winter weather rather than summer, thus bringing into use 35/17.
QNH pressure at BFS today was down to 991mb which is what you would expect in the winter months.
