Title: Dam Busters dog renamed for movie remake

The Dam Busters dog will be renamed for a new version of the classic war movie, it has emerged.
Stephen Fry, who is writing the film's screenplay, said there   was "no question in America that you could ever have a dog called the   N-word".
In the remake, the dog will be called "Digger" instead of "Nigger".

So what next? Take every book that has been written about the raid and tippex out Nigger and scribble in Digger? It's a friggin' historical fact - deal with it. Oh and I'd better get over to Wikipedia and remove it from there too.

Wasn't nigger a code word as well. I think they said that if they missed the dam or it didn't blow.

Yes it was the codeword for the breaching of the dams so it is written into history. So now they're re-writing it to appease the yanks.

This is one of those unfortunate situations when the meaning of the word as changed since the 1943 setting.
There are much worse words and phrases in modern movies.
Even in 12A they are allowed 3 "F" words,which I think is wrong-there is far too much foul language in movies now.
That`s just my opinion,but in some cases it has put me off enjoying a film;it grates with me listening to countless MF and CS and other choice phrases. >:( Think of another adjective!!!!
When The Dambusters was shown recently on TV,before it started the announcer said there was a reference that some viewers might find offensive,but it pointed out the historical difference in the meanings.I thought that was a good way of handling it.
I understand the producers don`t want to offend,the producers need to have a bit more courage and decide if they want to make a factual film or not,but my question is why do a remake?
The original film is one of my favourites,and do we really need another CGI remake of a classic film?
Remakes for me usually are crap,to the point of being unwatchable,Planet Of The Apes,Alfie,The Italian Job etc are an insult to the original films. :o
Planet of the Apes is so bad I only managed 15 mins-it was dire. :-X
