Looks like an engine failure.

Could well have been an engine failure;it`s hard to tell with the poor visibility.
It`s possible the pilot became disorinated because of the smog,and misjudged his manoeuvre before realising it was time to leave.

Thankfully not a huge explosion, could they have gotten the fuel calculations wrong regarding just enough for the display, but put to little in which is why the engine appears to cut out and little in the way of a fireball? Probably not!
