Hi everyone,
I was just wondering where would be a good place at Belfast City to go and get a few photos of aircraft? I was hoping to go up while i'm off school for christmas as i might have a scanner :) I need photos for my GCSE art work and i just have a 14 megapixel digital camera. Also i would like to get a few photos of planes taking off with H&W cranes in the backround with a nice orange sky?
So if anyone has any ideas i'd love to hear them and also when abouts the sky starts to turn a nice colour?

Hi Mig,
Me and 'Pablo' went today to get some pictures, we went up the access road you mentioned beside stand 10, there were signs on the fence that said something about restricted access beyond this point, which to me sounds like behind the fence on the actual airfield, we stood just beyond some gates we didnt see the first time for a while. we were told by airport security it was restricted which is fair enough, i asked if there was anywhere we could stand, the guy said yea, just on before the gates at the carpark. we went to tesco and came back and stood there, another airport security man told us we needed permission to be there and we werent aloud our cameras. That was okay as we were goin to get the train. I am just wondering if you know why we werent aloud to stand were a member of security staff said we could? and Thanks for the info and suggestions, we got some good pictures and all the pilots waved at us which made it a good day.

my advice is keep to ikea or the bridge and dont point out wee spots near the fence. oh and dont call security idiots on a public site. i had a wee spot years ago before G-ROOM happened and one of the fellow spotters got mouthy and we were not let in again. the IRA used our wee spot. not all who read here are friendly spotters

I agree,not a good idea to slag off the security at airports just because you may disagree with their instructions.
Most of the airport security are fine and don`t mind people taking photos,as long as they stay in the usual places.
If you go too close you will draw attention to yourselves,and questions will be asked.Generally you will be asked to move on,as they don`t want any hassle.
Remember they are just doing their jobs,admittedly sometimes you can get the odd "jobsworth",but arguing etc will not help.
Airport security are not in a position to tell you where you can go to take photographs,they are there to tell you where you cannot take them.
It`s down to common sense;if you are in a public place and not on private property you are fine,if you are near fences or near signs telling the public to stay away,then you will draw attention to yourself and likely be asked to move on.

and once you go through the gates you are not on public land.indeed anywhere below the old high water mark in east belfast belongs to BHC. Consbrook avenue for example is on reclaimed land so if they wanted to the harbour police can search your house. So if you get shirty to security at the airport there are a few extra laws you should brush up on not just psni ones.
