Aviation News / Re: Qatar QTR39c divert

Most diversions are not of the "we are on fire" variety and so the airline's ops people are usually involved in the decision and indeed can make arrangements with the receiving airport. Whether the carrier already operates to an airport seems to be one of the criteria, presumably in part because handling and company representation arrangements will already exist.

No, I don`t think you are wrong--any aircraft squawking 7700 is usually a full emergency, but it can be any number of things, from a tech fault, ill /disruptive / passengers or even crew.
I am sure their are others on here that can give better insight, I would think if it`s a really big problem, then nearest suitable airfield would do just fine.
Other considerations could be related to the paperwork involved, and if an airline has any sort of arrangement with particular airports / ground handling agents.

I saw flight QR740/QTR39c (Airbus A350-1041 A7-AND) was speaking 7700 and came off the Alantic and diverted to EDI. I thought BFS was classed as an emergency divert airport a few years back or am I wrong??

Malmö MFI-9 Junior

The Malmö Flygindustri MFI-9 Junior was a light aircraft from Sweden in the 1960s. It was also produced under licence as the Bölkow Bo 208.

It was an upgraded version of the earlier BA-7 which was a prototype. It went into production as the MFI-9 Junior. Changes included a larger cockpit with an uprated engine,a Continental O-200-A flat-four-cylinder air-cooled piston engine giving 100 HP. In 1963 it was followed by the MFI-9B Trainer and then the MFI-9B Mili-Trainer. All versions had a tricycle undercarriage.
Between 1963 and 1971, 210 Bölkow Bo 208s were built under licence by Bölkow Apparatebau GmbH, Germany.

A number of MFI-9Bs had been built for the Swedish Air Force, but when the sale fell through, the aircraft became available at a reduced price. In May 1969, Carl Gustaf von Rosen formed a mercenary squadron of five MiniCOINs to fight in the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970) on the side of the Biafrans, the aircraft were known as the Biafra Babies.
Pilots included RCAF Lynn Garrison among a group of mercenaries and Biafran-born pilots. Garrison co-ordinated the attacks, personally destroying an Ilyushin Il-28 and a MiG-17 during the first raid on Port Harcourt.18 aircraft were eventually supplied.

The flying seemed even further out than it seemed to be as shown on FR24/ADSB. Might just be the device it was recorded on with no zoom?

I think Bray have moved into the 'We got the Red Arrows and a fast jet, everything else is an after-thought' territory of airshows.

I found this on youtube........Bray Air Display 2023 July 29th (Saturday) - YouTube

It`s so so awfully bad, it`s brilliant, highlights include " Confused Girl with Huge Hot Dog " " Mrs Massive Black Umbrella ", " Putin`s Spy " , and many more.

Could be edited down to 15-20mins of the actual flying, it`s a great illustration of why I dislike seaside air-shows, most of the people there haven`t got a clue, I don`t just mean the aircraft.
The fact that whoever is recording this did not think to move to one side of " Putin`s Spy ", also zero manners from the other spectators, who just amble about in front of the person recording,
it`s actually very entertaining in a bizarre way--like a social experiment almost.

It should be entered into the Cannes Film Festival as Best / Worst Documentary. ;D

Looks like all in all they had a pretty successful show. Almost everything that was due to display got to display, the Lancaster didn't make it today though.

AT is right about seaside shows, they are getting pushed out further and its almost like a 'travelling circus' these days with each seaside show having the same displays give or take a few. There is little variety in them anymore. Got the Red Arrows and maybe the Typhoon? Great, that will bring the crowds and it is like everything else is an after-thought.

Most know I am a big advocate for Newcastle and they are apparently still wanting to bring it back, and Portrush moving to every 2 years, but with rising costs after Covid, the seaside show scene is dwindling.

I got some great photos at Cosford and RIAT this summer with only a 300mm lens, and Duxford is very good for closer displays too. The last Seaside show in NI I was at with a 600mm it was still very far out. I've made my peace that if I want to see anything of significance I need to go to Duxford, Cosford and Fairford these days as we will never have the likes of Newcastle 2014, Portrush 2015 and Bray 2016 which were all stacked with jets, again on this island.

Display lines at shows seem to be getting pushed out further and further each year, especially the seaside shows.
Personally speaking I think seaside shows are all but pointless now, unless there is something really special happening.
Every year you need more powerful lenses, or Bino`s to see anything, and that`s assuming it`s not raining.
Also from what I have read, many display pilots do not like to display over water, as lack of ground reference is a major problem.
