Spotting at Manchester Intl. Airport

Hi,
I've never been to Manchester and am wondering if it's worth the travel, are the spots easy reachable by public transport? What's the cheapest way to get there? (And about how much is the cost for such a trip?) What airlines and planes am I likely going to be able to catch on a weekend?

Manchester airport has some brilliant spots. The premier inn usually has a deal on for cheap rooms when staying two or more nights. Dave would be the one to ask about transport. I went with him last summer but I can't actually remember how we got about! I just followed him!

Hi guys,

 I am transiting through Manchester on Wed 2nd July and have a few hours to fill usefully.  I believe there is a good area for photos there, but will have a 'reluctant porter' with bags so need advice / tips on simplest way to get from the arrivals area (probably T1 around 08:30) to the spotting area and back to Terminal 3 for onward flight by 14:30

I will have to feed the porter at some point so will check the airport schedule nearer the time to try to be at the spotting area at most useful time

Any idea how far and how much time the journey is likely to be?

You can possibly stay around the airport and go to the top level (level 13) of the Terminal One Carpark. From here you overlook the entire of Terminal 2 ramp as well as part of Terminal one. The good height allows you to snap some good photos.


Alternatively, there's a bus that runs between the Manchester Airport bus station and the Runway Viewing Park although it's backlit for photography there until 4pm.

I lived in Manchester a coupe of years ago and when I even did go spotting, I went to the top floor of the multistory car par at terminal 1.  The easiest way I got to it was to get the train to the airport and take the passenger walkway to terminal 1, once I reached the end of the walkway and got to the terminal I took the elevator to the top floor of the car park.

You can catch all the movements at terminal 2 and most of the runway action, I cant remember if you can catch much action at terminal 1 for some reason, but it is a place I found easy to get to.
