Shorts at Woomera
« on: September 14, 2015, 05:52:41 PM »
Came across this photo in a book today and was intrigued.  Sorry, it's just a phone-camera snap as I don't have a scanner at the moment.

From 1967 to 1980 Shorts had the contract for providing air support to the Anglo-Australian Joint Project in Woomera, South Australia.

It appears that three Alo 3s and some DHC Otters were involved, apparently all owned by the Australian Department of Supply.  Alos were VH-UPN, VH-UPO and VK-UPP and previously had A5-sequence serials with the RAAF:

Shorts Air Services, possibly the same division that operated the Alos, also had the contract for drone operations on the Woomera range.

My father flew into woomera in the 330 production prototype g-bdbs during one of the demo tours of oz in the early 80s. He's going to try and pull out some pic's from his log book.
