Belfast City Airport [EGAC] ?
« on: August 14, 2009, 11:11:34 PM »
Hi i was doing some studying into my local airport which is Belfast City. There runways are :
Runways
Direction        Length          Surface
               m       ft
04/22      1,829  6,001         Asphalt

Heres some interesting stuff !
A Ryanair B738 - Takeoff run at MTOW needs [8,181 ft (2,450 m)] of runway !
A Flybe E-195 - Takeoff run at MTOW needs [2,044 m (6,700 ft)] of runway !
A Flybe Q400 - Takeoff run at MTOW needs [4,600 ft (1,402 m)] of runway !
A BMI A319 -  Takeoff run at MTOW needs [1,950 m (6,400 ft)] of runway !
A BMI A320 -  Takeoff run at MTOW needs [2,090 m (6,900 ft)] of runway !
A BMI A321 -  Takeoff run at MTOW needs [2,180 m (7,200 ft)] of runway !

So whats the Secret  ???

Simple - they don't take-off fully loaded, hence the plan to lenghten the runway.

Only the RYR 737-800s can't take a full load, this is due to the de-rated engines. Air Berlin operated at full capacity with there B738s to STN.

With all due respect I think you will find that any jet airliner operating out of BHD,with the exception perhaps of the Avro 146 are unable to operate with a full load.

Either passenger capacity or fuel load or both would have to be reduced to keep the aircraft in correct trim.
Aircraft dispatchers have computers to calculate the trim parameters for them-it takes into consideration runway length, wind speed, aircraft weight, fuel load, passenger load, and luggage/freight.

I worked at BFS for 3 years and have seen this system in operation-it is extremely accurate:I expect BHD use a similar system.

Haven`t heard about Ryanair using de-rated engines, but I know BMI had major problems at BHD when the runway was resurfaced a few years back-they withdrew the A321`s for a while as the airframes were being over stressed on both landing and takeoff.
