W10 photo editor
« on: January 10, 2017, 09:53:22 PM »
Folks,

I switched to Windows 10 last year, and have been generally very impressed. The photo editor seems to be a quantum leap better than any previous Windows, although I know that the professionals among you will have something much better on your machines!

The editor got an update a few weeks back, and now looks totally different. But it is still very capable. However, is it only me, or is the cropping facility now causing loss of resolution? I took some pics of the last United 757 on Monday, and needed to crop them in. Without crop, they looked pretty sharp, but as soon as I cropped, the sharpness disappeared. Obviously a crop will damage resolution, but this looked to be more substantial.

Anyone else notice this?

Sam

Hi Sam, cropping an image shouldn't have any affect on its sharpness - all you are doing is trimming bits of the edge.

I did upgrade to Windows 10 a couple of times last year but always went back to Windows 7 as I couldn't get Photoshop to run properly in 10.

Casper, you're right...but when you then zoom it back to the original size, I suppose you see that it wasn't just as sharp as you thought! But this is more than that...almost as if the image is being resampled at lower resolution.

I haven`t used the W10 photo editor myself-I use a free programme called photoscape, which usually works well for my needs.

Perhaps you need to look into the settings in more detail and how the edited image is saved,in case you need to adjust it for best quality-just a thought. :-\

Hope you get it sorted out.
