Airshow news for 2010

Not encouraging I'm afraid. 
I've got some feedback from the symposium at the weekend;
 
"Red Arrows have had their hours cut so it is most unlikely that they will be appearing twice at the same event. All overseas appearances have been scrapped and they will possibly display at 2 or 3 venues each Sat and Sun (per day) so venues have to be not too far away from each other!Not certain if the Typhoon will be available for more than a few shows, no Harrier either. Tornados not at all and the BBMFwill not be showing as much next year."

Sad news indeed. All cost cutting I'm assuming. The BBMF isn't a big loss for us as they hardly every turned up anyway but I'll miss the Typhoon.

I have spoken to a friend of mine who's in the raf he say's that there is a major cost cutting operation going on and it may effect airshows.

Thats gutting. People here may disagree with me (fair enough) but the fast jets make a show for me. I would have no interest in seeing a show with just smaller prop aircraft.

Possibly would trying to get passanger aircraft, be more important in the coming years.

Whilst it's a shame about the Red Arrows as they ALWAYS turned up and it never gets boring watching them, the BBMF have never had a great reliability rate when it came to the Portrush Airshow. This might be the opportunity to get in some of the larger private aircraft. The Dutch B-25 and the DC-6 were impressive several years ago. I'm sure Air Atlantique would have something perhaps?
 
I know cost is an issue but maybe something like a C-130 Hercules, A C-17 Globemaster or a Lockheed Tristar would draw in the crowds? People just love large aircraft, look what the A380 did for Portrush airshow last year.

Sad news indeed-in fairness to the BBMF they don`t fly unless the weather is fairly calm and that includes the transit to and from venues.Remember they fly VFR.
The weather on the day hasn`t been too bad at Portrush for the past two years,but sadly the same can`t be said for the rest of the UK as many display acts couldn`t make it due to the weather en-route.

Re: RAF Displays,Tornado`s and Harriers haven`t been on the display circuit for a few years now,and there is talk of withdrawing the Hawk display also (no great loss).
Also the Tucano and Grob Tutor displays aren`t terribly exciting,especially at a seaside show-no disrespect to the pilot`s!
 
The RAF isn`t the be all and end all for airshows,and to be honest I sometimes think N.I doesn`t get it`s fair share of RAF Displays.
There are other sources for fast jets and some tasty vintage jets in private hands (Hunters,Gnat,Vampire,Venom,Sea Vixen) etc
 
No Typhoon would be a big disappointment for me though.

TTF, not sure how much you can accurately answer this. Does CBC attempt to get other airforces in the airshow ? Or is cost of getting aircraft over, rule out everyone bar RAF ?
Be interesting to use the no show of raf, as a chance to pump the money into other regions aircraft ?

A couple less prop aircraft each day, using that money to secure further afield jets ?
(sorry prop fans, to me once you've seen 1/2 displays by smaller prop aircraft, you've pretty much seen em all)

The Norwegian,Dutch,and Belgian Air Force would be worth a try,all 3 have visited Aldergrove in the recent past,and they all have single F-16 Display teams.
 
Possibly even the USAF F-15 from Lakenheath would be a contender.
The USAF used to send stuff to Ards in the past (A-10`s,F-4 Phantom,F-111).
 
Maybe USAF aircraft transiting the Atlantic could do a flypast or three   If you don`t ask,you won`t get!
